Role Title: Safety and Security Manager
Reports to: Director of Venue Operations
Supervises: Security Personnel, Security Vendors, and Contractors
Classification: Full-Time/Exempt
Salary Range: $68,000 - $73,000
Starlight is Kansas City’s oldest and largest outdoor performing arts venue, stewarding a $20M annual budget and a year-round staff of 45 full-time employees alongside hundreds of seasonal team members and volunteers. As a civic treasure and cultural destination, Starlight presents Broadway musicals, concerts, special events and community programming that collectively reach hundreds of thousands of guests each year through approximately 100 events annually.
Role purpose: The Safety and Security Manager oversees venue security operations, conducts audits, establishes safety strategies, and coordinates with external parties and contractors to ensure a
secure and safe environment for staff and guests.
Required Accountabilities & Deliverables:
- Embraces Starlight's mission, vision, and values.
- Act as an Emergency Coordinator as part of the Emergency Response plan.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and annual security evaluations with outside contractors and external agencies.
- Review and revise the Emergency Response Plan and procedures on an annual basis.
- Evaluate and implement comprehensive security and employee safety protocol
- Evaluate security technologies and recommend new objectives to keep the venue up to date.
- Communicate security and safety policies to all Starlight staff..
- Provide in-house training on safety and emergency response procedures for full-time and seasonal team Coordinate contracts, schedules, and staffing for security personnel and vendors.

- Monitor events, trends, and alerts in the surrounding area that may impact venue operations.
- Monitor pedestrian traffic flow and provide operational feedback regarding security lines and campus movement.
- Provide security coverage for rehearsals, auditions, workshops, and special events.
- Investigate security and safety incidents as required.

Preferred Education and/or Work Experience:
- 5 years of experience in security management, law enforcement, military police, or a relate field.
- BA/BS Degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, Emergency Management, or a related field.
Other Working Conditions:
- Ability to stand or walk for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
This role requires a flexible schedule, including daytime, evening, and weekend shifts depending on the event schedule and production cycles.
This role is an indoor and outdoor job with a varying work week schedule of 40 hours per week but these hours may vary depending on weather, events, holidays, and other factors.
