What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian position at Starkville Oktibbeha School District?
REPORTS TO: Principal or Designee
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways and play areas neat and clean at all times.
- Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
- Sweeps classrooms daily and dusts furniture.
- Cleans corridors after school each day and during the day when conditions require it.
- Mops and disinfects toilet floors daily or on the schedule that is provided by his/her supervisor.
- Cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily or as needed.
- Keeps the grounds free from rubbish.
- Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation.
- Cleans all chalkboards at least once a week.
- Reports needed building repairs to the principal or designee promptly.
- Reports any damage to school property to the principal or designee immediately.
- Remains on the school premises during school hours and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his/her attendance is required by the principal.
- Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.
- Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal.
- Complies with local laws and district procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste.
- Requisitions and receives supplies and maintains necessary inventories or adheres to proper storage and labeling of chemicals.
- Attends designated staff development activities.
- Reports regularly and punctually to assigned work location and notifies supervisor or designee of impending absence in a timely manner.
- Any other duties as assigned by principal or designee.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certification of good health signed by a licensed physician.
- Ability to read basic operating instructions and write reports.
- Demonstrated aptitude for successful completion of the tasks assigned.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
