- Prepares correspondence, court documents, notices, forms, briefs, etc. from rough drafts, oral instruction or other means.
- Maintains complex filing systems.
- Prepares correspondence and documents, files with appropriate agency.
- Works with the court system, attorneys and law enforcement personnel; contacts various agencies to obtain and verify information.
- Manages appointment calendars; answers and screens calls and directs inquiries to appropriate staff.
- Sorts, opens and distributes mail and other items, files correspondence and case files.
- Prepares and files Supreme Court briefs.
- Provides staff support to other legal staff.
- Performs related work as required.
- Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience in staff support and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Associates degree with emphasis in the legal field preferred, as well as experience working in a legal office setting.
- Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
- Knowledge of legal terminology and the court system.
- Knowledge of business English.
- Ability to prepare various legal documents, letters and forms from drafts, or similar sources.
- Ability to read, understand and apply regulations, codes, policies, procedures and other operational guidelines and directives.
- Ability to prepare various written reports and records.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County staff, public officials, attorneys and the general public.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to operate various modern office equipment.
- Ability to operate a personal computer and various software applications.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize work as necessary.
- Ability to solve problems.
- Working Conditions/Physical and Mental Demands:
- Physical environment consists of a desk job in the standard environment. Will include physical motions of finger dexterity for frequent use of PC keyboard, sitting and standing motions.
- May be subject to emotionally stressful situations.
- Occasionally required to lift and move file boxes up to 25 lbs.
