What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grain Ops & Scale Tech position at Star of the West?
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Grade and test grain for moisture, test weight, foreign material, and other quality factors.
- Operate grain handling equipment (e.g., conveyors, augers, grain dryers, bucket elevators).
- Weigh trucks accurately using certified truck scales and document transactions.
- Record data into billing and inventory software systems (Agvance, Etc).
- Assist with fertilizer inventory tracking, customer service, and billing processes.
- Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, skid steers, and front-end loaders.
- Communicate with truck drivers and direct traffic within the facility.
- Perform routine maintenance and assist with keeping the facility clean and safe.
- Support general site operations, including loading/unloading of grain and crop inputs.
- Follow company safety policies and procedures at all times.
Minimum Requirements
- Previous experience in grain handling, ag operations, or scale house work preferred.
- Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently (training provided if needed).
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with ag business systems (a plus).
- Strong attention to detail and accurate data entry skills.
- Good communication skills and a team-oriented attitude.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Willingness to work extended hours during harvest and peak seasons.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physical labor as needed.

Physical Demands
Physically able to perform all requirements including but not limited to:
- Ability to walk stairs and climb up/down and in and around equipment and facility
- Standing and walking for several hours for an extended period of time
- General cleaning and housekeeping
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
