How You Will Make an Impact

The On-Demand Tutor (PT) will provide academic support in the form of one-on-one or small group tutoring in a hybrid instructional environment that guides, supports, and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. This position will help students comprehend subject material to successfully complete their assignments. This position involves collaboration with other instructional staff and school personnel and reports to the Head of School or their designee. The tutor will be committed to personalized instruction, adapting teaching strategies to meet the unique learning styles, goals, and challenges of each student.

  • Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions in Pre-Algebra, Algebra I & II, Geometry, Trigonometry, PreCalculus, and AP Calculus AB/BC. 
  • Assess students’ strengths and areas for growth to develop customized learning plans. 
  • Use engaging, student-centered teaching methods to foster understanding and confidence. 
  • Track student progress and communicate regularly with families and academic staff. 
  • Prepare students for standardized tests, classroom assessments, and AP exams. 
  • Maintain a positive, encouraging, and inclusive learning environment. 
  • Determine multiple approaches to support the student in understanding a concept. 
  • Determine the concepts that need to be the focus of tutorial sessions using teacher directions and evaluation of student work, student notes and discussions. 
  • Review student records, including calendars, class and text notes, book notes, etc. 
  • Become familiar with the educational materials and resources available to teachers and students. 
  • Contact teachers regarding course outlines and assignment schedules in preparation for interventions. 
  • Maintain a cooperative, professional relationship with administrators, teachers, colleagues, students, parents, and community members. 
  • Serve as a positive role model for students that support the school’s mission. 
  • Employ various pedagogical approaches to encourage critical thinking and deeper understanding.  
  • Keep informed of and comply with school policies. 
  • Attending meetings and training. 
  • Perform administrative duties, responsibilities, and activities as assigned, which may be changed from time to time.  
Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Knowledgeable in Middle School and High School Math and Science. 
  • Ability to learn and use new school technology systems. 
  • Ability to motivate students and parents toward achieving good academic standing. 
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse student populations. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with various professionals and the public. 
  •  Ability to work independently with minimal direction. 
  • Ability to respect the learner as a person of worth. 
  • Be willing to learn ways which will bring about the growth of student’s self-esteem as well as improved skills. 
  • Demonstrate patience, encouragement and understanding when working with students. 
  • Must be flexible to meet the needs of the students. 
  • An acute ability to listen, building a relationship of mutual respect and confidence. 
  • Excellent verbal, reading, and written communication skills, present information accurately and clearly. 
  • Analytical and organizational skills 
  • Self-sufficient and focused on excellent customer service. 
  • Exercise good judgment in setting task priorities.  
  • Must be self-motivated, professional, possess strong problem solving and accuracy skills.  
  • Able to work in a rapidly growing and changing environment. 
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or the equivalent, and Two years of college (48 units), or 
  • Associate degree (or higher) required. 
  • Related tutorial and mentoring experience required. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in subject matter competency required. 
  • Advance level of skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other technology applications.  
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong time management and organizational skills. 
  • Strong customer service focused approach with a commitment to student achievement.  

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Vision: Ability to read small prints and view a computer screen for prolong periods, prepare, or inspect documents and operate office equipment.  
  • Hearing: Ability to hear average or typical conversations and receive ordinary information. 
  • Speech: Ability to be understood in face-to-face communication, in person or remote, to speak with a level of proficiency and volume to be understood over a telephone or computer.  
  • Mental Demands: Ability to read, write, understand, interpret, and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgement and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile and coordinate information and records. Frequent multi-tasking, changing of task priorities, repetitious exacting work. Understand how to manage stress. high workflow management, high project coordination, and high people engagement. 
  • Upper Body Mobility: Ability to use fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together, use hands to grasp, and manipulate small objects; twist and bend at wrist and elbow; extend arms to reach outward and upward; use hands and arms to lift objects; turn, raise, and lower head. 
  • Strength: Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 10 pounds.  
  • Environmental Requirements: Ability to encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work indoors. Prolonged period sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Work in a moderate  to high noise environment with frequent deadline pressures.
