About Somerset Academy Avenir
Somerset Academy Avenir is expanding to include a private middle school opening in August 2026 on our Palm Beach Gardens campus. Building on our K–5 STEM foundation, the middle school program will emphasize innovation, inquiry, and real-world application through Project/Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and an entrepreneurial focus.
Our goal is to develop students who are analytical thinkers, problem solvers, and innovators prepared for future academic and career success.
Position Overview
We are seeking an innovative and student-centered 5th/6th Grade Math & Science Teacher to join our founding middle school team. This educator will inspire curiosity and critical thinking through hands-on, inquiry-based instruction.
- 5th Grade: Instruction follows a structured elementary model aligned to Florida standards.
- 6th Grade: Instruction is delivered through a Project/Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model with an entrepreneurial focus, emphasizing real-world application of math and science concepts.
The ideal candidate is collaborative, flexible, and passionate about STEM education.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based instruction in Mathematics and Science
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners, including ELL and ESE students
- Create a structured, engaging classroom environment that promotes inquiry and problem-solving
- Utilize data to assess student progress and guide instructional decisions
- Design and implement project & problem-based learning experiences (6th grade) that include real-world problem solving, STEM integration and design thinking, data analysis and application, entrepreneurial concepts such as budgeting, product design, and innovation
- Facilitate hands-on labs, investigations, and collaborative learning experiences
- Collaborate with colleagues to support interdisciplinary instruction
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff
- Participate in professional development, school initiatives, and community events
- Uphold the mission, vision, and values of Somerset Academy Avenir
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Mathematics, Science, or related field (required)
- Valid Florida Teaching Certification in Mathematics and/or Science (required)
- Prior teaching experience preferred, but not required for exceptional candidates
- Strong content knowledge and instructional skills in math and science
- Excellent classroom management and student engagement strategies
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- A growth mindset and commitment to continuous improvement
