This is a full-time position located on-site at our Modesto administrative office. During our Harvest season, which runs from mid-July to late September, you will be expected to work at least 6 days a week. The typical schedule off season is Monday-Friday from approximately 7 am – 5 pm.
The Network Architect is a mid-level technical role responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of our network infrastructure. This position supports both on-premises and cloud-based environments, ensuring secure, reliable, and high-performing connectivity across all systems. The role also includes mentoring junior network staff and contributing to strategic network planning and security initiatives.
This position will be primarily responsible to:
- Develop strategies and direction for network systems solutions using current and emerging technologies.
- Plan for and recommend network hardware and software upgrades that meet business needs, capacity, and compliance.
- Create and maintain network diagrams and configuration documentation.
- Deploy, configure, and maintain network hardware including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless systems.
- Administer network access control solutions, such as ClearPass.
- Monitor and troubleshoot network performance issues using tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG, or Wireshark.
- Implement and enforce network security policies including firewall rules, access controls, and intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS).
- Manage IP addressing, VLANs, and routing protocols (e.g., OSPF) to ensure efficient and secure network segmentation.
- Support hybrid cloud networking (Azure/AWS) including virtual networks, VPN gateways, and site-to-site connectivity.
- Maintain core network services such as DNS, DHCP, and NTP.
- Coach, mentor and oversee junior Network team members. This includes conducting one-on-one meetings, managing team’s performance and being responsible for all timekeeping duties.
- Assist in disaster recovery planning and maintain network redundancy and failover capabilities.
- Work in partnership with cybersecurity and infrastructure teams, incorporating change management practices.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior network technicians, assisting with troubleshooting, training, and professional development.
- Support patching and firmware updates for network devices and ensure compliance with security baselines.
- Respond to escalated support tickets and provide Tier 2/3 network troubleshooting.
- Design, implement, and manage high availability solutions leveraging technologies such as LACP, policy-based forwarding, and other redundancy protocols to ensure continuous network service and minimize downtime.
- Support spanning tree protocols to ensure network resiliency and prevent loops.
- Support advanced wireless network security solutions.
- Collaborate with the Operations team to design, optimize, and support Operational Technology (OT) systems, while documenting OT network configurations and changes.
- Ensure secure integration between IT and OT environments, applying best practices for network segmentation, access control, and monitoring.
- Other work as assigned.
Candidate Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Networking, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience in enterprise network administration.
- Proficiency with HP Aruba, Cisco, or Palo Alto platforms.
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, subnetting, VLANs, 802.1Q tagging, and routing protocols.
- Experience with firewall configuration and wireless network management.
- Familiarity with cloud networking and hybrid infrastructure.
Candidate Preferences:
- Certifications: Aruba Certified Network Professional (ACNP), CCNA, CompTIA Network , Fortinet NSE, or Azure Network Engineer Associate.
- Experience with SD-WAN, SASE, and zero-trust architecture.
- Exposure to network automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Python scripting).
- Experience with OT networks to support industrial environments.
- Excellent documentation, communication, and mentoring skills.
- Proactive in assessing and making recommendations for improvement.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, hybrid environment.
Physical Requirements:
Some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and frequent fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires the following percentages of time committed to physical activity: 50% or more sitting, 25% or less walking, and 25% or more standing. The job is performed under occasional temperature variations and primarily in an office environment. Unrestricted visual and audio abilities are required for the safety of all employees. The ability to lift to 25 lbs. is required.
