A Brief Overview
The Director - Workforce Optimization is a strategic leader responsible for driving labor efficiency and productivity initiatives across Stanford Health Care. This role will oversee the development, planning, and implementation of innovative workforce strategies that align with organizational goals, enhance operational performance, and ensure optimal resource utilization. The Director will collaborate closely with Human Resources, Finance, and Operations to design and implement workforce optimization strategies that support organizational objectives and foster a culture of continuous improvement. This position will also be responsible for establishing and monitoring performance metrics that link workforce optimization initiatives to measurable organizational outcomes, ensuring accountability and continuous enhancement of labor practices.

What You Will Do
- Lead and manage the Workforce Optimization team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation to achieve strategic labor productivity goals.
- Develop and implement comprehensive workforce optimization strategies, policies, and best practices that drive efficiency and align with the organization's mission and vision.
- Engage with key stakeholders across the organization to identify workforce needs, gather insights, and drive initiatives that enhance labor productivity and operational effectiveness.
- Lead change management efforts related to workforce optimization initiatives, including training and support for staff to ensure successful adoption of new processes and systems.
- Monitor and analyze workforce performance metrics, providing regular reports and recommendations to senior leadership to inform decision-making and strategic planning.
- Bachelor's degree in a work-related field/discipline from an accredited college or university; Master’s degree is preferred.
- Ten (10) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience, including:
- Significant experience leading workforce management initiatives and operations that result in labor savings and increased efficiency.
- Extensive operational experience to effectively relate to all areas within the organization.
- Proven track record of partnering with executive leaders to achieve strategic business goals.
- Deep understanding of financial management tools and dashboards, with the ability to leverage technology for workforce optimization.
- Significant expertise in workforce management functions and best practices.
- Strong project management, leadership, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience influencing cross-functional areas that are not under direct reporting lines including collaboration with Finance, HR and Operations functions.
- Strong business and financial acumen, with the ability to analyze and develop solutions to complex problems.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity in a fast-paced environment while managing competing priorities.
- Strong people leadership skills, including mentoring, training, and day-to-day management.
- Ability to communicate complex concepts in simple terms to non-finance users, ensuring understanding of the appropriate use and limits of information provided.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the organization.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulatory requirements related to workforce management.
- Working knowledge of productivity and position management data and analytics, and an ability to translate data to actionable insights that drive improvements.
- Experience with Workday HCM for staffing management.
- Experience with Strata financial reporting.
- Experience working in academic medical centers.
