Position Summary

Plan, direct, or coordinate the work activities and resources necessary for manufacturing Standlee Premium Western Forage products in accordance with cost, safety, quality, and quantity specifications.

This position profile identifies the key responsibilities and expectations for performance. It cannot encompass all specific job tasks that an employee may be required to perform. Employees are required to follow any other job-related instructions and perform job-related duties as may reasonably assigned by his/her supervisor.

Key Performance Areas (Essential Functions of the Position) 

  • Coordinate and recommend procedures for facility and equipment maintenance or modification, including the replacement of machines.
  • Develop and implement production tracking and quality control systems, analyzing production, quality control, maintenance, and other operational reports, to detect production problems.
  • Support the Plant Manager to develop budgets and approve expenditures for supplies, materials, and human resources, ensuring that materials, labor and equipment are used efficiently to meet production targets.
  • Direct and coordinate production, processing, distribution, and marketing activities of industrial organization.
  • Train, evaluate, and manage staff assigned to shifts. Nonproductive or unsafe behaviors from subordinates shall be discussed with the Eden Plant Manager.
  • Institute employee suggestion or involvement programs.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the quality control specifications, relying on SPWF Product Specifications and SOP’s pertaining to materials use, technological advances, and statistical studies.
  • Prepare and maintain production work orders and reports.
  • Review operations and confer with maintenance staff to resolve production or processing problems.
  • Review processing schedules and production orders to make decisions concerning inventory requirements, staffing requirements, work procedures, and duty assignments, considering budgetary limitations and time constraints.
  • Set and monitor product standards, examining samples of raw products or directing testing during processing, to ensure finished products are of prescribed quality.
  • Coordinate with Distribution Center staff to coordinate transfer of finished products to the DC inventory.
  • Implement and enforce best practice safety measures to ensure the safest working conditions possible

  • Professional Communication – direct respectful assertive communication in both written and verbal formats. Ensure that the Eden Plant Manager is informed of all aspects of Plant Operations and Human Resource Management. 

Business Impact 

  • Responsible for manufacturing ~ $150,000 of forage products (retail value) per 12-hour shift
  • Responsible for supervising ~$5,000 of labor expense per 12-hour shift
  • Responsible for the control of ~$15 million forage manufacturing assets during 12-hour shift
  • Responsible for the risk management and assessment of Company’s HSE programs. Failure to supervise employees and facilities effectively and as per policy will adversely affect the Company and Customers. The SPWF annualized sales are ~$100 million.

Experiences / Education Requirements 

  • Production and Processing - Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Administration and Management - Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Mathematics - Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
  • Education and Training - Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
  • Mechanical - Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Education - High School Diploma, Associates Degree in related field.
  • Experience - Three to five years’ experience in manufacturing environment with management responsibilities.

Working Conditions

General Manufacturing Environment:

Work is regularly performed inside the plant and occasionally in the surrounding grounds and facilities. Because of this, employees are frequently exposed to adverse weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, wind, rain and snow. Lighting varies based on the season, weather and conditions in the plant. Employees regularly work near moving mechanical parts, material handling equipment and are exposed to ergonomic hazards, noise and dust.

Physical Requirements:

The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Work is fast paced and employees are expected to perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor, therefore they must have excellent stamina, be in good physical condition and capable of handling objects up to 75 pounds in weight. Individuals must also have good eyesight, hearing and better than average coordination in order to keep up with production equipment. In addition to these requirements employees are regularly required to sit or stand for extended periods of time, reach, bend, climb, and walk about the facility and production areas.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a Full/Part Time position. Days and hours of work are To Be Determined depending on workloads. As a Plant we run Monday through Friday for 24 hours a day, and weekends as needed. Our shifts are separated into A, B, and C shifts. A shift 7:00 am to 3:30 PM, B shift 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm, and C shift 11:00 pm to 7:30 am.

Travel Requirements

Frequent travel to local Standlee locations (by vehicle), occasional travel by air as directed.
