Standard Iron & Steel is seeking a high-energy, results-driven Outside Sales Representative to spearhead our rebar distribution efforts. Unlike general metal service centers, our primary focus is the reliable delivery and service of rebar to the construction and fabrication industries.
This role is designed for a "hunter" who thrives on the road and understands the backbone of the Midwest's infrastructure.
Territory & Location
Primary Region: Kansas City (MO/KS), Nebraska, and Iowa.
Base Location: Candidates should be centrally located within the territory (e.g., Greater Kansas City area, Omaha, or Des Moines).
Travel: Approximately 80% travel is required to engage with customers and prospective accounts on-site. The remaining 20% is managed from a home office, with occasional visits to our main location in Webb City, MO.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Territory Management
Strategic Growth: Oversee sales and marketing efforts across the tri-state region, focusing exclusively on rebar products and value-added processing services.
Consultative Selling: Utilize frequent, face-to-face contact to understand project timelines and job site requirements, ensuring long-term partnership over simple transactions.
Market Penetration: Identify and develop new accounts within the commercial, industrial, and infrastructure sectors while maintaining strong ties with established, loyal customers.
Performance & Communication
Quota Achievement: Consistently meet or exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets to drive regional revenue.
Market Intelligence: Relay customer needs, local pricing trends, and competitive activity to management with professional business acumen.
Reporting: Maintain consistent and thorough reporting to leadership via daily call reports and CRM updates.
Qualifications
Industry Expertise: Strong knowledge of the steel industry, specifically rebar and concrete reinforcement, within a fast-paced distribution environment.
Experience: 2 years of experience in the metal industry (steel, aluminum, or stainless) is strongly preferred.
Proven Results: A documented track record of meeting or exceeding sales quotas.
Communication: Exceptional interpersonal and negotiation skills.
Logistics: Ability to travel extensively across Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa.
Education: A Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field is a plus but not required.
