About Stand with Asian Americans

Stand with Asian Americans (SwAA) is seeking a full-time Staff Attorney to drive the mission, objectives, and impact of our legal service operation. 

SwAA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to advancing workplace equity, combating discrimination, and empowering Asians in America. As America’s first legal civil rights organization focused primarily on combating anti-Asian workplace discrimination, SwAA’s mission is to protect and advance the rights of Asians in America, through the power of law, education, and community.

Position Overview & Function

Reporting to the President & General Counsel, SwAA’s Staff Attorney will be a critical driver in the growth of our legal services. Additionally, the Staff Attorney will also have the opportunity to work with SwAA’s leadership team to advance its education and community advocacy goals. 

This role will be fully remote. Occasional travel may be required for work-related functions. 

Key Duties and Responsibilities will Include the Following:
  • Lead intake meetings with potential clients and connect them with the appropriate legal services or resources
  • Represent and advise clients in employment discrimination cases before state and federal courts, the EEOC, or state-equivalent agencies
  • Draft, negotiate, and advise clients on legal documents, such as motions, briefs, demand letters, settlement agreements, and severance packages
  • Conduct legal research and investigations in support of client matters
  • Identify, sustain, and build legal partnership network for case referrals
  • Develop educational materials and advocacy content on workplace rights and anti-discrimination laws applicable to workers and employers
  • Work closely with the operational and leadership teams to ensure communication and alignment within the organization, through regular meetings and reports
  • Participate in strategic planning for the organization’s legal services and programs
  • Represent SwAA at events, panels, workshops, and conferences, as needed
  • Supervise and mentor legal interns or volunteers
  • Engage in other projects and duties as needed in furtherance of the organization’s growth and mission
Key Qualifications

This position requires a Juris Doctor degree and admission to at least one state bar (California and/or New York preferred). Candidates must have the following qualifications: 

  • Exceptional legal research, writing, and analytical abilities
  • 2-5 years experience in labor, employment, or civil rights practice with an excellent track record
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and comfort with public speaking
  • A deep commitment to social justice and strong desire for public interest work
  • High emotional intelligence, cultural competency, and client service skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple caseloads with close attention to detail
  • An action-oriented mindset that is grounded in a commitment to serving the community
  • Working proficiency in an Asian language(s) is preferred given the primary client base we serve
Compensation

This is an outstanding opportunity for a highly motivated attorney to engage in high-impact work and join a dynamic and social justice-focused organization at a critical moment in the organization’s growth trajectory.

This is a full-time, exempt position. The anticipated annual salary for this role will be between $80,000 – $120,000 (commensurate with experience) payable semi-monthly. Candidates will also be eligible for the following:
