What are the responsibilities and job description for the Children's Case Manager position at STAND! For Families Free of Violence?
We have an exciting opportunity for a children’s specialist to work with families in our residential community and provide child-centered case management services.
Our services to children are provided through our ‘Rainbow Room’ morning preschool program which is open Monday through Friday, and available to children staying in our emergency shelter and transitional housing programs. This program’s activities are geared to the specific needs of children who have been exposed to domestic violence or other trauma. Children attending the program are typically aged 2 to 5, although this can vary.
Outside of the pre-school program, the caseworker offers a homework club for older children, and family-focused comprehensive case management services including parent education and support, referrals, liaising with school districts, safety planning and peer counseling. The successful candidate will be experienced, comfortable and confident in their own ability to make independent decisions and respond appropriately to manage crisis situations that our clients might experience.
This position works Monday through Friday with one late shift, 12pm to 8.30pm and four day shifts, 9am to 5.30pm. Some flexibility for occasional weekend or additional evening work is required, to attend or provide support at community events and celebrations.
The successful candidate will have previous experience working with children, a solid understanding of the issues faced by children who have witnessed domestic violence, and a trauma-informed, non-judgmental approach to working with children and families.
Information management is vital to maintaining excellence in our service delivery, and our caseworkers keep up to date, accurate documentation of client contact and activity that occurs while they are working.
Primary Duties and Essential Functions:
Children’s Services
- Implement developmentally appropriate children’s curriculum and services, designed to meet the needs of children exposed to abusive environments.
- Lead the preparation and implementation of activities for children’s programs.
- Schedule, coordinate and supervise the efforts of volunteers.
- Be available to parents and staff for questions on parenting and child development.
- Maintain statistical information including attendance/roster records, curriculum content and volunteers’ timesheets.
- Prepare incident reports as needed and follow up appropriately.
- Maintain a nurturing, healthy, clean, and consistent environment for children.
- Daily room preparation and light clean-up at the end of sessions.
- Mandated reporter responsibilities.
Domestic Violence Casework
- Address client needs providing necessary interventions including crisis intervention, peer counseling, safety planning.
- Maintain a caseload and provide case management services for ES and TH residents.
- Facilitate support groups and community meetings.
- Conduct locker and unit checks for safety.
- Accompany / transport clients as required.
- Develop and maintain information about existing community resources.
- Keep accurate, up-to-date, confidential, and timely documentation of client contact and activity.
- Provide support and training to staff and volunteers.
- Make community presentations on Intervention Program Services.
- Attend procedural updates meetings and training.
Required qualifications for this position:
- Twelve Early Child Education units: including units in child development, child, family and community, and curriculum.
- Knowledge of child developmental stages.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working with children ages 2 to 5.
- CPR / First Aid Certification.
- Understanding of the impact that exposure to DV can have on children.
- Competency in crisis management, safety planning, danger assessment.
- Competency in case management.
- Experience providing social services.
- Ability to demonstrate cultural competency.
- Ability to demonstrate active listening skills.
- Ability to prioritize clients’ needs in crisis situations.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Experience using problem-solving techniques and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to serve clients from a trauma-informed perspective, and in an empathetic manner, while maintaining appropriate boundaries.

- Reliable vehicle, valid California driver’s license held for 3 years, acceptable driving record, (MVR will be run prior to hire and periodically thereafter), and proof of drivers’ insurance
Employment with STAND! is contingent upon acceptable fingerprint / criminal history check, acceptable MVR, and successfully completing U.S. Department of Justice Form I9. Continued employment is contingent upon successful completion of the Agency’s mission-related required training. Having a Bachelors’ Degree and / or bilingual Spanish/English skills are preferred qualifications for this position.
