Responsibilities
- Review and analyze outpatient medical records, including physician notes, diagnostic reports, and treatment documentation to assign appropriate ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision) and CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes.
- Ensure accurate coding of diagnoses, procedures, and services using ICD coding systems (ICD-9 and ICD-10) to facilitate proper billing and reimbursement processes.
- Apply DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications where applicable to support hospital billing and statistical analysis.
- Maintain compliance with all coding guidelines, healthcare regulations, and payer requirements to prevent claim denials or delays.
- Collaborate with medical billing teams to resolve coding discrepancies and optimize revenue collection efforts.
- Keep up-to-date with changes in medical coding standards, healthcare policies, and insurance requirements through ongoing education.
- Utilize Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems efficiently for documentation review and code assignment.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology to accurately interpret clinical documentation.
- Proficiency in ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding systems, and DRG classifications for outpatient procedures.
- Experience with medical billing, collections, and understanding of the revenue cycle process.
- Familiarity with medical records management and maintaining detailed documentation for audit purposes.
- Hands-on experience working with EMR/EHR systems for efficient coding workflows.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to analyze complex clinical information quickly and accurately.
