Job Description
Position Title: Youth Outreach Specialist
Reports To: Executive Director
General Description: The Youth Outreach Specialist’s primary responsibility is to provide direct services to eligible youth and families in Mason County. Services include crisis intervention, information and referrals, temporary shelter, short term solution focused sessions, and prevention work. Most of their work will be conducted outside of the traditional office setting and will take place in schools, individual’s homes and various other places in the community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Each Outreach Specialist will be assigned to a specific geographic area. They will be expected to provide all needed services to eligible youth and families in their area.
- Primary services to youth and families including 24hr crisis intervention; assessments, referrals, and/or intakes into the program; individualized service plans; life skills training; short term solution focused sessions; prevention groups; and temporary shelter placement for runaway youth.
- The Outreach Specialist should be an advocate for the youth while performing the responsibilities listed above using a Positive Youth Development Approach.
- Other responsibilities include:
-Mandated reporting of suspected child abuse and neglect in accordance with state law;
-Perform weekly on-call coverage as part of the staff rotation
-Participate in relevant community meetings to include
-Appropriate and timely referrals to community agencies
-Participation in all relevant inter-agency meetings
-Timely documentation of worked performed
-Accurate data entry into all required data systems
-Participation in review of outcome data as a way of improving service
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Must possess at least a Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or a human services field
- Prefer two (2) years’ work experience in a human service field
- Demonstrate problem-solving skills with basic knowledge of family dynamics
- Possess commitment to assisting at risk youth; Must be highly reliable and responsible; able to maintain sound judgement; able to work independently
- Broad knowledge of community resources
- Willingness and ability to effectively lead psycho-educational groups
- Conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times
- Actively pursue skill enhancement related to job responsibilities
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
