POSITION REPORTS TO: Executive Director

GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Development and Community Outreach Specialist plays a key role in advancing the mission of Oceana County Council on Aging by increasing community awareness, cultivating relationships with donors and partners, and securing grant funding. This position will work closely with the Executive Director and Administrative Team and is responsible for developing and executing outreach strategies, managing donor engagement activities, preparing compelling grant proposals, and supporting organizational marketing efforts.

Fundraising & Development

  • Develop and implement comprehensive annual fundraising plan aligned with the Organization’s goals and budget needs.
  • Manage all aspects of donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, ensuring a high level of engagement and retention.
  • Oversee donor database management, gifting processing, and accurate recordkeeping.

Grant Management

  • In coordination with the key staff, research, write, and submit grant proposals and reports to private foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
  • Oversee grant deliverables, timelines, and outcomes to ensure compliance and timely submission by collaborating with key staff members.

Communication, Marketing and Community Engagement

  • Work closely with Program Director to plan and execute fundraising and community awareness events that reflect the mission and values of the Oceana County Council on Aging.
  • Develop and manage content for the Organization’s social media platforms, websites, and other materials to promote programs, events, and stories of impact.
  • Cultivate and maintain productive relationships with local newspapers, journalists, Chamber of Commerce, and other media sources.
  • Assist Program Director with engagement through special events including summer kayaking, Red Cross community classes, holiday events, etc.
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure consistent messaging and branding across all communication channels.
  • Create compelling donor communications, including appeals, thank-you letters, and updates that strengthen engagement.
  • Monitor and analyze social media and marketing performance metrics to improve outreach and engagement.

Collaboration and Leadership

  • Provide regular reports and metrics on fundraising performance.
  • Manage annual reports by working closely with Executive Director, department heads, and key staff to provide stakeholders with current organizational status.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • Enthusiasm, patience and understanding of working with senior citizens.
  • Experience in outreach, development, marketing, or related nonprofit role.
  • Experience in planning and facilitating events.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable speaking to groups and representing the organization in public settings.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Proficient computer skills and a willingness to learn new programs/databases.
  • Valid driver’s license and excellent driving record.
  • Ability to be flexible, creative and to respond calmly to frequent changes in routine.
  • Experience with marketing, social media.
  • Experience with developing new and innovative fundraising initiatives.
  • Proven experience with grant writing and knowledge of the grant application process.
