General Summary:

  • Grinds and smoothes surfaces of steel parts or tanks to better finishes of 240 grit or 320 grit prior to finishing operations. This position is classified as a safety sensitive position, see Limitations and Disclaimer for additional information.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Operates RA machine to determine quality/finish of grinding.
  • Grinds welds to appropriate filet size.
  • Determines appropriate grinds per customer specifications and ensures that all grinds meet quality assurance standards. 
  • Provides insight to Leadmen/Bay Supervisors and efficiently and effectively manages time and resources. 
  • Performs all tasks of Grinder-Class B Craftsman with no assistance.
  • Completes manufacturing documentation in a timely manner.
  • Follows all safety guidelines as noted in Safety Manual.
  • Assists all supervisors and performs other duties as needed and directed.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of all abrasives used in grinding.
  • Knowledge of grinding abrasives used to achieve up to 320 grit.
  • Knowledge of operation of all grinding tools.
  • Knowledge of procedures used to achieve different grinding finishes required.
  • Knowledge to grind any part or tank weld that is assigned.
  • Knowledge to start with blueprints and build tank from start to finish.
  • Ability to keep hand and arm steady when moving or holding arm and hand in one position.
  • Ability to meet budgeted hours.

 

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 2-3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Working Conditions:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and toxic or caustic chemicals. 
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
