Business Intelligence (BI) Developer

Location : Atlanta, GA

STAFFXPERT is loloking for a  BI Developer that will serve as the primary Power BI expert responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing enterprise‑grade dashboards, semantic models, and analytics solutions. This role focuses heavily on Power BI development, including advanced DAX, data modeling, performance tuning, and governance. The developer will extract and prepare data from Oracle databases and transform it into scalable, high‑performing Power BI datasets and reports that support business decision‑making. Oracle DBA experience is not required but is considered a valuable plus for supporting performance tuning, query optimization, and general database reliability.

Core Responsibilities

Power BI Development

  • Build interactive, executive‑ready Power BI dashboards with drill‑downs, KPIs, bookmarks, tooltips, and advanced visualizations.
  • Develop robust semantic models, star/snowflake schemas, and optimized datasets for enterprise reporting.
  • Write advanced DAX (time intelligence, row‑level security, dynamic measures, calculation groups).
  • Use Power Query (M) to clean, transform, and shape data for reporting.
  • Implement dataset refresh strategies, incremental refresh, and performance optimization.
  • Manage Power BI Service: workspaces, deployment pipelines, gateways, permissions, and governance.
  • Create dataflows, reusable entities, and standardized models for self‑service BI.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and reconciliation between source systems and Power BI outputs.
  • Apply best practices for visual design, usability, and storytelling.

Oracle Data Extraction & Integration

  • Extract and prepare data from Oracle 12c/19c using SQL, PL/SQL, stored procedures, and views.
  • Build ETL/ELT pipelines to move Oracle data into Power BI (Import, DirectQuery, or hybrid).
  • Optimize Oracle queries for performance, scalability, and refresh efficiency.
  • Collaborate with DBAs and data engineering teams to validate data structures and ensure reliable data ingestion.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5–8 years in BI development with a strong emphasis on Power BI.
  • Expert‑level Power BI skills, including:
    • Advanced DAX
    • Power Query (M)
    • Data modeling & semantic layer design
    • Performance tuning
    • Row‑level security
    • Dataflows & deployment pipelines
  • Strong SQL and PL/SQL experience with Oracle databases.
  • Hands‑on experience integrating Oracle data into Power BI.
  • Deep understanding of data warehousing, dimensional modeling, and BI best practices.
  • Experience with Power BI Gateway, scheduled refreshes, and enterprise governance.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into scalable BI solutions.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Oracle DBA exposure (performance tuning, indexing, schema support, backup/recovery fundamentals).
  • Experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Synapse, or Data Lake for modern BI pipelines.
  • Familiarity with Oracle BI Publisher, OBIEE, or legacy reporting tools.
  • Experience with Python, Shell scripting, or automation frameworks.
  • Knowledge of DevOps, Git, or CI/CD for BI deployments.
  • Background in financial, operational, or enterprise reporting environments.

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with business stakeholders and translate needs into technical solutions.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and presentation skills.
