What are the responsibilities and job description for the Control Panel Designer position at Staffing Spot, Inc.?
Key Responsibilities
- Design industrial control panels, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts using AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar CAD software.
- Develop control panel designs in compliance with NEC, NFPA 70, UL 508A, IEC, and customer specifications.
- Prepare bills of materials (BOMs), cable schedules, terminal plans, and manufacturing documentation.
- Select electrical components including PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, motor starters, relays, power supplies, circuit breakers, and control devices.
- Collaborate with controls engineers, mechanical engineers, manufacturing teams, and project managers throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review customer specifications and translate technical requirements into detailed electrical designs.
- Support panel fabrication, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
- Perform design reviews and ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance with engineering standards.
- Mentor junior designers and provide technical guidance on best practices.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance design efficiency and standardization.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- 7 years of experience designing industrial control panels and electrical systems.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar electrical design software.
- Strong understanding of industrial automation systems, PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, motors, and control circuits.
- Experience creating electrical schematics, panel layouts, BOMs, and wiring documentation.
- Working knowledge of UL 508A, NEC, NFPA 70, IEC, and other applicable electrical standards.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Experience with Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Schneider Electric, or ABB control systems.
- UL 508A MTR certification or equivalent industry certification.
- Experience supporting manufacturing, factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), or field commissioning.
- Knowledge of industrial networking protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Profinet, or Modbus.
