Position Overview
The VP of Accounting & Finance will lead the financial operations of a growing general contractor, providing both strategic financial guidance and hands-on oversight of accounting and project financial performance. The ideal candidate will bring significant construction accounting experience and the ability to communicate financial information effectively to both accounting and non-accounting stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead accounting and financial operations, including budgeting, reporting, forecasting, and internal controls.
- Oversee project-based accounting, job costing, monthly job reviews, and profit projections.
- Partner with project managers and operations leadership to improve financial performance and project visibility.
- Prepare and present financial analysis and recommendations to senior management.
- Oversee accounts receivable, AIA billing, payroll, benefits, and related financial processes.
- Establish and improve accounting policies, procedures, and controls as the company grows.
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax professionals, banks, insurance providers, and other outside partners.
- Manage business insurance, bonding, and financial risk-management activities.
- Develop and mentor accounting and administrative team members.
- Improve communication and collaboration between accounting, operations, and project teams.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational performance, profitability, and financial controls.
Qualifications
- Significant accounting leadership experience within the construction industry.
- CPA designation strongly preferred.
- Experience with project-based accounting, job costing, forecasting, and construction financial reporting.
- Strong understanding of construction billing, including AIA billing.
- Experience managing accounting teams and partnering with operational leadership.
- Strong knowledge of financial controls, risk management, budgeting, and financial analysis.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
- Experience with construction and accounting technology such as Sage, Procore, QuickBooks, or similar platforms.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- Proven ability to operate effectively in a growing, entrepreneurial organization.
