What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head of Business Development position at Stack Up?
Who are we and what we do:
StackUp is the AI-powered infrastructure layer that helps publishers diagnose, optimize, and future-proof their programmatic advertising stack - from the pipes up.
Our mission is simple: make the programmatic supply chain smarter, cleaner and more profitable for publishers and buyers alike.
We use AI to understand publisher supply at a depth the open market cannot, and we turn that understanding into curated deals built around real buyer demand and generate insights ad ops teams do not have enough hours in the day to search and uncover.
For publishers, that means incremental revenue and an always-on intelligence layer watching over their ad stack. For buyers, it means supply that performs because it was packaged to perform.
We are a lean, fast-moving company where every person has a direct line to strategy, product and results. No layers, no politics, just building.
Our platform is live in market today, already working with tier 1 and mid-tier publishers across multiple verticals in the US, and we are backed by strategic investors with a strong footprint in the industry.
About the role:
You will build our sales team from the ground up.
- Build StackUp's go-to-market from a blank page: define which publishers we sign, which buyers we activate, and in what order.
- Bring publishers onto our curation enrichment and AI Ad Ops products, then turn that supply into curated deals that agencies and advertisers actually spend against.
- Run your own pipeline end to end: sourcing, first call, pitch, negotiation, signature, renewal.
- Be our eyes and ears in the market. You will know what competitors are packaging, what buyers are asking for, and where curation is heading before it shows up in the pipes, and you will feed that back into product.
- Show up where the industry is: publisher conversations, agency meetings, events. Your network is a core part of the job, and you will grow it constantly.
- Take on whatever an early-stage company throws at you. Pricing decisions, positioning debates, strategic bets. You are a founding commercial hire, and you will act like one.
Requirements:
- You have spent at least five years in ad tech and you know it from the inside. Maybe you sold for an SSP, ran BD at a Platform selling publisher solutions, or grew publisher revenue somewhere. The exact seat matters less than the scar tissue.
- You have closed real deals with real names attached.
- Your phone book is an asset. Publishers pick up when you call
- You can whiteboard the programmatic supply chain without notes. Deal IDs, PMPs, curation, SPO: these are things you have worked with, not terms you memorized for the interview.
- You are comfortable in the technical weeds when a conversation goes there: ad servers, Prebid, video and CTV setups.
- You want to build, not inherit. There is no playbook here yet, no team under you on day one.
What we offer:
- Competitive base salary with highly competitive performance-based commission
- Health coverage
- 401(k) retirement savings plan
- Meaningful equity or revenue-share participation as an early hire
- Fully remote or hybrid flexibility, based in the New York area
- Generous paid time off
- Direct impact on product, strategy and company direction
- The chance to build the partnerships and revenue engine from the ground up
**The pay range for this position in New York is $140,000 - $160,000 base, plus commission.
