Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Early Learning Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong passion for working with young children in a Reggio Inspired program and a comprehensive understanding of early childhood development. In this role, you will be responsible for working collaboratively to create engaging learning environments, support children's developmental needs, and maintain a positive classroom and school culture that promotes learning and growth.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Teacher is directly responsible for the culture, management, and oversight of the classroom functions. They provide a high quality educational, developmentally appropriate curriculum, aligned with SVELC’s educational philosophy and approach to meet the needs of each child. Additionally, the Teacher will have an understanding and ability to put into practice and advocate for the following guiding principles: Reggio Emilia approach, culturally and linguistically competent, child and family centered practice, natural learning environments, learner focused approach, and functional and meaningful activities/supports.

Health and Safety / Classroom Functioning

• Guide, supervise, and provide for safety of the children in all indoor and outdoor learning spaces
• Ensure that children are properly dressed for outdoor activities
• Responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly indoor/outdoor classroom
• Responsible for classroom volunteers, interns, and practicum students and assignment of meaningful tasks
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with families
• Ensure all required classroom-related regulations are met with fidelity, at all times

Pedagogy and Educational Approach

• Directly responsible for adherence and fidelity to SVELC Classroom Pedagogical Expectations.
• Work collaboratively with all SVELC staff and departments, especially with Co-Teachers and Teaching Assistants
• Create a secure and inviting environment which fosters exploration and discovery
• Encourage children’s curiosity about the world and teach problem solving skills
• Develop, maintain, and relaunch stimulating and transformative interest centers, provocations, projects, and invitations in the classroom
• Participate in weekly Progettazione meetings with Co-Teacher and Director of Early Learning
• Actively participate in daily collaboration and planning time
• Achieve and maintain certification in Teaching Strategies GOLD and regularly input documentation.
• Collect, document, and enter necessary data for child development into required databases as necessary.
• Utilize data for all children to inform, on an ongoing basis, individualized educational and support strategies
• Plan and conduct daily activities including preparation of educational materials to meet the needs of individual children and the developmental needs of the group
• Observe children and maintain anecdotal records regarding their growth, health, behavior and progress; share this information with parents and appropriate personnel
• Regularly monitor and ensure deadlines for all data collection and assessments are met
• Plan and conduct family conferences at least twice per year, with the goal of keeping families informed regarding their child’s growth and development; follow-up with families after each conference
• Plan, coordinate, and facilitate meaningful and intentional family engagement events, at least once per quarter
• Communicate with families at least once per day, sharing individual and/or group information regarding their child’s interests, progress, wonderings, and happenings of the classroom
• Gather child success and impact stories, stakeholder content, and photographs; share with Advancement staff and ensure release information is on file prior to utilization
• Ensure shared and common spaces and associated materials are presentable, respected, and replenished/refreshed
• Create, publish, and refresh visible documentation of child and classroom research and learning
• Participate in reflective supervision and support of Teaching Assistants

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS

Pay Grade 1 requirements:

• BA/BS in Early Childhood Education with grades of C or better from accredited college/university; OR
• BA/BS in Elementary Education with a Kindergarten/Primary endorsement with grades of C or better from accredited college/university; OR
• BA/BS including at least 15 credit hours in Early Childhood Education with grades of C or better from accredited college/university
• At least 3 years of early childhood experience
• Ability to utilize technology at a proficient level
• Experience working successfully within and/or supporting a team
• Strong time management, communication, and organizational skills

Pay Grade 2 requirements:

• AA/AS/AAS in Early Childhood Education with grades of C or better from accredited college/university; OR
• AA/AS in Elementary Education with grades of C or better from accredited college/university; OR
• AA/AS including at least 15 credit hours in Early Childhood Education with grades of C or better from accredited college/university
• At least 1 year of early childhood experience
• Ability to utilize technology at a proficient level
• Experience working successfully within and/or supporting a team
• Strong time management, communication, and organizational skills

REQUIREMENTS

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and see, stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and move from standing to sitting on the floor and return to standing.
• Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Must pass physical examination, TB screening, and all background checks as required by regulatory authorities.
• Must complete all required onboarding training.
• Must be able to fulfill all requirements as specified by the State of Indiana or NAEYC, as it applies to early learning licensure or best practice.
• Must align practice, duties, and behaviors to follow the Misson, Vision, Values, Philosophy, and Approach of St. Vincent Early Learning Center.

Pay: $16.28 - $23.00 per hour
