Position: Full-Time (Some weekends/holidays as needed)

Position Summary

The Food Service Specialist / Kitchen Manager oversees all daily operations of the community kitchen, including meal preparation, food safety, inventory management, volunteer coordination, and maintaining a welcoming, respectful environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and serve daily meals following nutritional and organizational standards.

  • Supervise kitchen staff and volunteers; provide training and scheduling support.

  • Ensure full compliance with all health department rules and food safety standards.

  • Manage inventory, track food donations, and coordinate deliveries.

  • Create weekly menus based on available food and budget.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen environment.

  • Monitor equipment and coordinate maintenance or repairs as needed.

  • Work collaboratively with program directors for events and community service needs.

  • Uphold the mission and values of St. Vincent DePaul.

Qualifications

  • Experience in commercial or institutional food service (required).

  • Previous supervisory or kitchen management experience preferred.

  • ServSafe certification (required) or ability to obtain within 30 days.

  • Strong understanding of food safety practices and sanitation standards.

  • Ability to lift 40 lbs and stand for extended periods.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

  • Compassionate, patient, and mission-driven approach to working with vulnerable populations.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
