Job Summary
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) will have overall strategic and operational responsibility to the St. Vincent de Paul - St John's Conference for all the Special Works. The ideal candidate will be committed to the mission and values of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) and have leadership experience in a faith-based, non-profit organization.
Leadership and Management
- Organizational Understanding and Servant Leadership: Become familiar with and supportive of the mission, vision, and protocols of SVdP. Lead through collaboration and influence.
- Organizational Management: Oversee and provide strategic guidance to the Store Manager and Outreach Director and become familiar with their respective roles. Advocate and direct change relative to policy, team behaviors, and programs. Retain a diverse and highly qualified staff by modeling professionalism, and providing career coaching, training opportunities, and personal development.
- Board Liaison: Assist the Board in its role in providing strategic guidance to the Conference. Plan and prepare information for Board meetings to include annual budget reviews, monthly and quarterly results, forecast updates, fundraising outcomes, variances and performance trends. Keep the Board informed as to concerns and challenges that require their consideration.
- Financial Management: Oversee operations, ensuring their economic viability and make recommendations to improve revenue and/or reduce costs. Responsible for fundraising to include grant writing, gift solicitation, and work alongside the Board to develop actionable fundraising plans. Lead and identify growth strategies through a thorough understanding of financial documents, budgets, income statements and balance sheets. Assist Conference President and Treasurer in preparing annual reports.
- Public Relations and Communication: Serve as the public face of the Special Works. Speak confidently and knowledgably with reporters, donors and community members. Support the Conference and Special Works in assisting neighbors-in-need through collaboration and partnership with community partners, professional, civic and private groups and agencies. Develop and maintain relationships with SVdP partners as well as within the community, participating in community programs and organizations to provide exposure to SVdP programs and values. Refine all aspects of communications including a web presence and social media.
- Human Resource development and retention: Work with management and HR staff to ensure that existing HR policies and procedures are clear, up-to-date and accessible. Provide support to management in situations involving employee performance and disciplinary action if required. Understand and assist in the administration of all employee payroll, competitive benefits, and training opportunities.
- Building and Grounds: Become involved with the structural and technological needs of the buildings and the schedule for capital improvements. Work with local contractors and others to secure bids and schedule needed improvements.
- Support other duties as necessary and assigned by the President or Board of Directors.
Skills
The ED will be thoroughly committed to and understand the work of SVdP. All candidates should have proven leadership, communication, coaching and relationship management experience.
Demonstrable experience and other qualifications include:
- College degree with at least 10 years of senior management experience preferred; track record of effectively leading a performance- and outcomes-based organization and staff.
- Ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth.
- Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation.
- Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget.
- Ability to work with a board of directors and cultivate existing board member relationships.
- Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures.
- Understanding of the needs and motivations of volunteer staff.
Travel
Ability to drive to other locations when needed. Airline trips to regional or national SVdP Conferences.
Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
