Position Summary
The Director of Finance (DoF) serves as the senior financial leader of St. Thomas Aquinas High School and is responsible for the strategic and operational management of the financial functions of the school. Reporting to the President and working closely with the Board of Directors and Finance Committee, the DoF ensures sound financial stewardship, transparency, and long-term sustainability in support of the school’s Catholic mission.
As the school’s primary financial professional, the DoF oversees all aspects of finance including accounting, budgeting, tuition management, payroll, financial reporting, audit coordination, and long-range financial planning. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on management of daily financial operations.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership
• Advise the President and Board of Directors on financial strategy and long-term planning.
• Lead the annual budgeting process and develop financial forecasts.
• Prepare and present regular financial reports and analysis for school leadership and the Finance Committee.
Accounting & Financial Operations
• Manage all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, reconciliations, and cash flow management.
• Ensure accurate monthly and annual financial reporting in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards.
• Maintain effective financial controls and policies.
Tuition & Revenue Management
• Oversee tuition billing, collections, and financial aid administration.
• Monitor receivables and support enrollment-based revenue forecasting.
• Ensure proper stewardship and tracking of donations, grants, and restricted funds.
Payroll, Audit & Compliance
• Oversee payroll processing and employee benefits administration.
• Coordinate the annual independent audit and maintain regulatory compliance.
• Manage insurance coverage and financial risk management.
Financial Systems
• Maintain and optimize financial systems, including QuickBooks Online, Paylocity, Blackbaud, Givesmart, and Ramp.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; Master's preferred.
• 5 years of progressive financial management experience, preferably in nonprofit or educational settings.
• Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and internal controls.
• Experience preparing financial reports for executive leadership and boards.
