Church Nursery Leader (Part-Time)

Position Title: Church Nursery Leader Hours: Sundays, 9:30 a.m.–11:30 a.m. (2 hours per week), with occasional special worship services and church events Compensation: $20/hr

Position Summary

The Church Nursery Leader provides a safe, welcoming, and nurturing environment for infants and young children during Sunday morning worship and other designated church events. This person serves as an important part of the church’s ministry by offering loving care that allows parents and guardians to participate fully in worship, Christian formation, and church life.

Primary Responsibilities

• Welcome children and families with warmth and hospitality.
• Provide attentive, age-appropriate care for infants and young children during Sunday morning services.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and engaging nursery environment.
• Supervise children’s play and ensure appropriate interactions.
• Change diapers and assist with toileting as needed, following church policies.
• Offer snacks or bottles provided by parents, observing any dietary restrictions or allergies.
• Clean and sanitize toys, equipment, and nursery spaces after each use.
• Communicate professionally with parents regarding their child’s needs or any concerns.
• Report accidents, illnesses, or safety concerns promptly to church leadership.
• Assist during occasional special worship services and church events as scheduled.

Qualifications

• Enjoys working with infants and young children.
• Demonstrates patience, kindness, and a caring spirit.
• Reliable, punctual, and dependable.
• Able to work independently while following church policies and procedures.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Previous childcare or nursery experience is preferred but not required.

Requirements

• Successfully complete a background check.
• Complete the church’s Safe Church/Safeguarding training (or equivalent child protection training).
• Maintain a professional and respectful demeanor with children, parents, volunteers, and staff.
• Be physically able to lift infants and toddlers, sit on the floor, and actively engage in childcare activities.

Compensation

• $20 per hour
• Minimum commitment of 2 hours each Sunday (9:30–11:30 a.m.)
• Additional hours for special services and church events will be scheduled in advance and compensated at the same hourly rate.

Reports to the Rector of St. Simon’s Episcopal Church

This position is ideal for someone who has a heart for children and desires to support the church’s ministry by creating a safe, joyful, and caring environment for its youngest members.

Pay: From $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 2.0 – 4.0 per week
