Executive Director Job Description

Location: 166 High Street, Newburyport, Massachusetts

Compensation: $35 per hour
- Lead with compassion—help nourish body and soul in Newburyport as our next Executive Director.
About the Organization
Nestled within the welcoming walls of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 166 High Street, Newburyport, the Among Friends Meal Program (AFMP) has been a compassionate cornerstone of our community since 1983. As one of only two programs in the greater Newburyport area offering three free, prepared meals weekly—Monday dinners and Tuesday and Friday lunches—it serves approximately 400 meals each week, totaling around 20,000 meals a year.
More than just nourishment, AFMP fosters essential human connection and dignity. Guests—including individuals experiencing homelessness, seniors on fixed incomes, and those facing isolation—are welcomed with restaurant-style service, nutritious meals, and warm conversation. This caring environment nurtures both physical health and emotional well-being.
In recent years, the program’s resilience and community collaboration have blossomed. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the program remained steadfast—continuing to serve hundreds of meals weekly without missing a single service. Through partnerships with regional food providers and the opening of the Seacoast Regional Food Hub in Salisbury, AFMP gained improved access to fresh produce and cold storage—dramatically enhancing meal quality and operational efficiency. An inspired $50,000 raised for kitchen upgrades and the creation of the organization’s first strategic plan further solidified its vision for growth.
Together, these milestones reflect a program deeply committed to nourishing both body and soul—empowered by community, guided by compassion, and grounded in resilience.
