Position Summary

The Instructor for MOA115 Medical Records and Insurance is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in medical record management, medical office financial procedures, diagnostic and procedural coding, insurance processing, billing, and collections. The instructor ensures that students gain the knowledge, hands-on skills, and professional competencies required for entry-level success in medical office administration and preparation for certification examinations.

This position requires a strong understanding of healthcare documentation, billing regulations, revenue cycle processes, and current insurance practices. The instructor will provide engaging lectures, guide lab exercises, assess student learning, maintain accurate academic records, and support a positive and respectful classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities: Instruction & Curriculum Delivery

  • Deliver course content in alignment with the MOA115 Medical Records and Insurance syllabus and institutional standards.
  • Teach topics such as:
  • Paper and electronic medical record management
  • ICD-10-CM diagnostic coding
  • CPT & HCPCS procedural coding
  • Fee determination and bookkeeping
  • Managed care policies and third-party billing
  • Medical insurance plans and reimbursement procedures
  • State and federal laws related to billing, coding, and collections
  • Provide clear lectures, demonstrations, simulations, and hands-on laboratory activities.
  • Prepare students for quizzes, midterms, finals, and certification preparation modules.

Classroom & Lab Management

  • Maintain a respectful, inclusive, and professional learning environment.
  • Ensure proper use of SimChart and all required learning resources.
  • Oversee and evaluate lab activities such as completing medical forms, coding simulations, claim submission, ledger posting, fee schedule reading, and bank deposit exercises.
  • Monitor attendance and classroom participation per institutional policy.

Student Assessment & Support

  • Evaluate student performance through quizzes, assignments, labs, exams, and in-class activities.
  • Provide timely feedback and academic guidance to support student success.
  • Maintain grade records in accordance with institutional standards.
  • Identify students needing additional support and refer them to academic services when appropriate.

Compliance & Institutional Responsibilities

  • Ensure course delivery aligns with accreditation standards, FERPA, ADA guidelines, and institutional policies.
  • Stay current with updates in coding systems (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS), medical billing regulations, HIPAA, and insurance policy changes.
  • Attend program meetings, faculty trainings, orientations, and professional development activities.
  • Contribute to curriculum updates when needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of an associate degree in Medical Office Administration, Medical Billing & Coding, Health Information Management, Health Science, or related field.
  • Professional experience in at least one of the following areas:
  • Medical billing and coding
  • Health insurance processing
  • Revenue cycle management
  • Medical office management
  • Health information/medical records
  • Knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR), scheduling, billing software, and medical office workflows.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and instructional skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related healthcare or business field.
  • National certification such as CBCS, CMAA, CCMA, CPC, CCA, RMA, or related credential.
  • Previous teaching or training experience (classroom, online, or clinical).
  • Experience using Elsevier SimChart or comparable EHR simulation software.

Working Conditions

  • Teaching in a classroom and laboratory setting with frequent hands-on demonstrations.

Class Time - 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM, Mon - Thur

Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour

Expected hours: 11.0 per week

Work Location: In person
