Medical Office Administration Instructor
(Course: Medical Office Procedures, Communication, and Office Management)
Position Summary
The Medical Office Administration Instructor is responsible for delivering engaging, competency-based instruction that prepares students for entry-level administrative roles in healthcare settings. The instructor will teach medical reception procedures, scheduling, communication skills, healthcare law and ethics, safety and emergency procedures, and the use of medical office technology. This role includes facilitating lectures, hands-on labs, assessments, and certification exam preparation.
Key Responsibilities Instruction & Classroom Management
- Deliver course content through lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and laboratory activities in accordance with the approved syllabus.
- Teach students reception procedures, scheduling systems, written and oral communication, confidentiality, administrative technology, and emergency protocols.
- Facilitate hands-on training in communication skills, telephone techniques, scheduling, written correspondence, and use of SimChart or similar EHR systems.
- Maintain a structured, respectful, and professional learning environment that supports diverse learners.
- Assess student progress through quizzes, exams, homework, skills checklists, and lab evaluations.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback to support student learning and skill development.
- Assist students in preparing for certification exams (CMAA, CCMA, CBCS, or similar).
- Maintain accurate grade records and meet institutional deadlines for reporting.
- Follow the established curriculum, course objectives, and institutional policies.
- Ensure all instruction aligns with federal/state regulations, accreditation standards, and industry expectations.
- Incorporate legal, ethical, and safety concepts into lectures and labs, including HIPAA, OSHA, and risk management principles.
- Use approved textbooks, lab materials, and online resources (e.g., LIRN/LRC databases).
- Utilize digital instructional tools and medical office software, including EHR simulation systems (e.g., SimChart).
- Integrate technology into instruction, such as presentation tools, LMS platforms, and communication systems.
- Support students in developing strong computer literacy skills relevant to modern medical offices.
Professionalism & Institutional Engagement
- Promote a positive learning environment through effective communication, classroom management, and professionalism.
- Attend faculty meetings, training sessions, and required institutional events.
- Uphold ADA guidelines, academic integrity standards, and student conduct policies.
- Serve as a role model for ethical behavior, cultural competence, and patient-centered communication.
QualificationsRequired
- Associate’s degree or higher in Medical Office Administration, Medical Assisting, Health Administration, or a related healthcare field.
- Minimum of 2–3 years work experience in a medical office or ambulatory healthcare environment performing administrative duties (scheduling, communication, office procedures, medical records, etc.).
- Proficiency with EHR systems, scheduling software, and general office technology.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred
- Teaching experience in higher education or vocational/technical training.
- Current certification such as CMAA, CCMA, CMA, RMA, or CBCS.
- Experience with Kinn’s Medical Assistant textbook series or SimChart.
- Familiarity with adult learning principles and active learning strategies.
Work Environment
- Classroom and lab setting with hands-on demonstration components.
- Interaction with diverse student populations.
- Requires standing, demonstrating procedures, using computers, and managing lab equipment.
Class Times - 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM, Mon - Thur
