The business manager oversees the administrative, financial, and facility operations of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, allowing ministry staff to focus on pastoral duties. Key responsibilities include managing budgets, accounting (AP/AR, payroll), human resources, facility maintenance, and compliance with legal and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Management: Develops and manages, in conjunction with the elected church treasurer, the annual budget, oversees bookkeeping (income and expenses), manages fundraising efforts, and ensures compliance with financial policies. Manages the tuition assistance program, tuition collection, and tracks fundraising efforts. Provides financial statements to Church Council, School Board and Voter’s of congregation.
- Facility Oversight: Manages facility maintenance, security, and repairs. Oversees grounds keeping and coordinates building usage with staff and external groups.
- Human Resources: Handles employee benefits, payroll, performance evaluations, staff onboarding, and ensures compliance with employment laws.
- Operations & Admin: Oversees the church office, manages office technology, ensures insurance coverage, and maintains legal compliance.
Common Qualifications
- Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, or related field preferred, along with professional experience in financial management.
- Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks), strong organizational leadership, excellent communication, and knowledge of HR best practices. Must be a self-starter and able to work without immediate, local supervision.
- Attributes: A high level of integrity, discretion, and a dedication to the church's mission and ministry goals.
- Faith: Must share the basic Christian faith and values that are proclaimed and taught at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and School.
Reporting Structure
- The business manager directly reports to the Pastor and works closely with the Board of Elders, Church Council & School Board.
- The business manager regularly reports and informs the elected church treasurer of church and school finances.
Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
