The hiring salary for this position is $53,103 - $56,171 annually ; full salary range for this position is $53,103 - $80,929 annually.
Job Summary:Serves as a lead worker in the buildings maintenance crew; plans, schedules and performs a broad range of maintenance and construction duties on buildings, grounds and equipment found in water and wastewater facilities. Position reports to the Wastewater Collections Superintendent.Essential Functions:
- Serves as lead worker in the buildings maintenance crew
- Coordinates and performs light construction, repairs and maintenance to buildings, grounds and structures used to provide water and wastewater service; to include but not limited to carpentry, roofing, framing, electrical and plumbing
- Performs a variety of grounds maintenance duties (clearing ditches and fence lines, cutting grass, edging, lawn restoration, etc.)
- Develops material lists, obtains pricing and creates purchase requests as needed to complete projects
- Monitors/oversees work of various supply or service contractors
- Cleans, prepares, and applies protective coatings to wood, metal, concrete, or other surfaces; including buildings, floors and water storage tanks
- Utilizes computer skills to generate and close work orders as needed to track job status
- Upgrades building structures (e.g., installing steps, sidewalks, etc.)
Performs other duties as assignedRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (These are pre-employment KSA that apply only to Essential Job Functions.):
- Ability to gain working knowledge of St. Mary’s County Metropolitan Commission policies and procedures
- Ability to act as a representative of St. Mary’s County Metropolitan Commission to the public
- Expert knowledge of relevant construction, maintenance and repair practices and procedures as they relate to building and grounds maintenance; (construction, electrical, plumbing and mechanical)
- Knowledge of safety regulations and established procedures for operating, repairing, removing and installing equipment/materials as well as for ensuring safety
- Ability to effectively communicate with other staff members and the public
- Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records; (job estimates, material pricing and purchasing)
- Ability to wear appropriate PPE for chemical protection, including respiratory gear
Training and/or Education:
High school diploma or G.E.D. and one or more years of job-related experience
Experience:
Or equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience
Licenses or Certificates:
Must possess a valid Maryland driver’s license, Class C

Work demands occasional strenuous effort. For example, handling moderately heavy tools, equipment, or materials of 30 to 60 pounds or more.
Unusual Demands:
Work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress which require a range of safety and other precautions, e.g., aggressive human behavior, extreme outdoor weather conditions, confined work space, or similar situations where conditions cannot be controlled.
