St. Malachy, an Independence Mission School, is seeking a Behavioral Support Aide. This role is responsible for 

assisting teachers and school staff in managing and addressing behavioral issues and challenges in young students in the Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) through 2nd grade, and supporting schoolwide as needed. This role involves providing support, guidance, and intervention to help students develop appropriate behavior and social skills. The Behavioral Support Aide works closely with teachers, counselors, and administrators to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Behavior Supports:

  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with behavioral challenges.
  • Develop and implement behavior intervention plans and strategies to help students improve their behavior and social skills.
  • Assist in de-escalating disruptive behavior and promote a calm and safe classroom environment.
  • Provide emotional support to students during difficult moments.
  • Encourage positive peer interactions and promote a supportive classroom community.  
  • Provide full-group supports when one-on-one or small group supports are not needed

Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and school staff to identify students in need of behavioral support and develop individualized plans.
  • Attend meetings and discussions to share insights and observations regarding student behavior.
  • Be prepared to respond to crisis situations when necessary, following school and district protocols in collaboration with administration and counselor, and relevant personnel

Monitoring and Data Collection:

  • Observe and document student behavior, progress, and challenges.
  • Maintain accurate records of interventions and student responses to support decision-making and planning.

Parent/Guardian Communication:

  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians of high need students regarding their child's progress and challenges.
  • Collaborate with families to develop strategies for consistency in behavior management at home and school.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Support whole class activities such as student lunch time, arrival, dismissal, both as an aide and at times as a substitute lead teacher
  • Hours: 7:30-3:30

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience working in a school-setting experience preferred
