Position Overview:This skilled journeyman-level position requires expertise in plumbing and other pipe systems which may include high-security environments such as the Jail and Courts systems. The role is responsible for leading plumbing repairs, installations, and maintenance activities.




Plumbing Installation and Repairs:

  • Lead the repair and replacement of residential, commercial, and industrial plumbing fixtures ensuring compliance with plumbing codes and standards.
  • Install, repair, replace and perform maintenance on and repair broken water and/ or sewer fixtures, lines and pipes, and drains.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair irrigation and restroom plumbing systems, which may include electronic plumbing systems in the Jail and Courts systems.
  • Install and repair faucets, toilets, shower valves, shutoff valves, water fountains, and mixing valves.
  • Lead the rough-in of new construction projects and design/renovate plumbing systems.
  • Respond to urgent and/or emergency plumbing issues.

Project Leadership and Documentation:

  • Lead and supervise subordinate maintenance mechanics, ensuring proper scheduling and work processes.
  • Monitor the progress and quality of work by outside contractors when necessary.
  • Prepare reports, sketches, and material requests for plumbing projects.
  • Recommend specific maintenance projects and work requirements.

Decision Making: Make timely decisions on the job, especially in high-pressure situations, such as during emergencies or complex installations.

Team Supervision: Ability to supervise and mentor junior plumbers, apprentices, and other workers on the job site, ensuring safe and effective work practices.

Emergency Response and Safety Compliance: Respond to emergency plumbing issues and be available for on-call duties 24/7 as assigned. Work in high-stress, high-security environments with a need for special safety precautions, including the use of protective equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to use both hands and fingers, good hand/eye coordination, and the capacity to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS AND WORK HAZARDS: Comfortable working indoors and outdoors, including climbing ladders and frequent standing. Required to use safety glasses, ear protection, and protective clothing/equipment when necessary.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Four (4) years of journeyman-level plumbing experience, including two (2) years in a supervisory capacity within the plumbing field.
  • Required: County-issued Journeyman Plumber Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
  • Knowledge of Hydraulics related to flow rates, pipe sizes, and pressures.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills to manage subordinate workers.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair electronic plumbing systems.
  • Effective communication skills for working with both team members and outside contractors.
  • Experience working in or around correctional environments with inmates is preferred.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License with a good driving record.
  • The ability to pass a thorough background check.
Pay Grade T10

This is a union position.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENING: This position requires a physical, drug testing, driver's license verification and level 1 background screening.

Salary : $26 - $39
