The Green City Coalition (GCC) is a cooperative agreement between the St. Louis Development Corporation (SLDC), the Missouri Department of Conservation, the City of St. Louis, and the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District. GCC’s mission is to transform vacant land and underutilized park spaces into community greenspaces that promote neighborhood revitalization, equitable access to nature, enhanced biodiversity, and climate resilience.

The St. Louis Development Corporation (SLDC) is the independent economic development agency serving the City of St. Louis. SLDC is an action-oriented organization that exists to empower, develop, and transform St. Louis through a vibrant, just, and growing economy where all people can thrive.

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated, dynamic, & self-motivated Community Projects Manager to join our team. This dual-focused position (50% community engagement, 50% project management) will be housed within SLDC.

The role will emphasize community engagement and project management to advance GCC’s mission of revitalizing urban green spaces, while also supporting SLDC’s Economic Justice Action Plan.The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, project management experience, the ability to build and maintain relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, and a passion for community development and environmental sustainability.

 

Key Responsibilities

Community Engagement (50%)

  • Develop and implement community engagement strategies to raise awareness of and encourage resident participation in GCC initiatives.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community stakeholders, including residents, partner agencies, community organizations, and local businesses.
  • Organize and facilitate community events, workshops, and volunteer opportunities to promote engagement with and development of GCC green spaces.
  • Support volunteer management activities, including recruitment, partnership development, promotion of opportunities, and volunteer appreciation.
  • Manage the GCC Green Stewards Program, which provides stipends to neighborhood residents who perform stewardship services for GCC sites.
  • Gather community input to inform GCC project development & ensure alignment with resident goals.
  • Manage digital outreach including newsletter, social media, & other online communication platforms.
     

Project Management (50%)

  • Support the planning, execution, and evaluation of GCC projects in collaboration with the Director and Coalition partners.
  • Develop project deliverables, timelines, and budgets to ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and in compliance with requirements.
  • Coordinate with project stakeholders—including partners, contractors, community groups, and residents—to ensure project success.
Qualifications:

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in a field related to Community Development, Public Administration, Urban and Regional Planning, Social Work, Project Management, Non-profit Management,  Environmental Sciences, or similar course of study
  • 2–5 years of experience in community engagement, project management, or a similar role
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work collaboratively with partners, residents, and contractors across diverse settings
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills with experience engaging diverse stakeholders.
  • Preference for candidates with basic knowledge of environmental sustainability practices, especially in urban contexts
  • Proficiency with spreadsheet/database management applications (i.e., Microsoft, Google Suite,  applications) and other software applications used by the City
  • Ability to communicate and relate to persons of diverse backgrounds and abilities and establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Adaptability in working across multiple sectors and disciplines, and eagerness to learn where experience or knowledge is lacking

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires valid driver's license
  • Requires willingness to work on occasional evenings and weekends
  • Requires ability to perform community and neighborhood visits on one’s own
  • Requires ability to travel as required for work responsibilities

Salary : $52,000 - $60,000
