The Acquisitions Department is seeking a full-time Collection Development Librarian-Adult Print who selects materials and evaluates the Library collection to meet the needs of patrons for current and relevant materials.

Salary: $69,187.00
Hours:
Monday – Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Performance Criteria for the Essential Responsibilities:
1. Selects materials in accordance with the Library's Collection Development Policy and current guidelines.
A. Reads a variety of review sources in order to identify potential purchases.
B. Uses the current tools effectively including cart technology, ILS list, and with online electronic resources in order to identify appropriate materials to satisfy patron needs.
C. Evaluates and takes appropriate action on patron and public service staff requests to ensure that purchases fall within collection development parameters.
D. Takes responsibility for spending the budget allotment within the parameters established in the Collections Development Policy and current guidelines.
- Selects materials for all branches to ensure that patrons have access to a timely and well-rounded collection.
A. Evaluates circulation and demographic trends to maintain familiarity with the make-up of each branch service area.
B. Maintains familiarity with pre-selected collections available from Library vendors.
C. Selects additional materials in order to customize the collection for specific locations.
- Evaluates the existing collection to enhance strengths and addresses weaknesses and works with Branch Managers to fulfill collection needs for all demographic groups.
A. Researches and analyzes current trends to determine collection development needs.
B. Analyzes reports generated by use of Microsoft Access, Excel, the Library's ILS and other collection analysis tools to identify unfilled holds and areas of interest.
C. Assigns collection budget funds and branch allocations for each collection purchase to ensure excellent use of Library funds.
D. Assists in identifying areas of the collection to be deselected in order to maintain a robust, balanced and attractive collection.
- Works with and guides Acquisitions staff in the task of ordering materials and performing other tasks that contribute to a robust and well-rounded collection.
A. Communicates regularly with Acquisition staff that place orders to ensure that orders are placed quickly and accurately.
B. Works with Acquisitions staff to complete special projects, analyze purchase suggestions and request-to-be-item ratios, and other tasks to enhance the collection and use collection funds as efficiently as possible.
- Meets regularly with vendors and reviews professional literature to maintain familiarity with publishing trends.
A. Makes appointments with vendors in order to keep abreast of the variety of available materials.
B. Review catalogs and other publishing information resources to learn of new vendors and forthcoming materials.
C. Examines and reviews samples of publications to ensure their quality and suitability for a public library environment.

Job Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Library Science
- Knowledge of St. Louis County Library District communities
- Ability to supervise, train and motivate staff
- Must possess a commitment to a high level of public service to Library customers
- Must possess good judgment, analytical, and problem solving skills
