Job Summary
The Life Skills Development 1 (Companion) provides non-medical care, supervision, and social support to individuals with developmental disabilities in their home and community. This role focuses on companionship, safety, and assistance with daily activities while promoting independence, dignity, and community inclusion.
Duties
Key Responsibilities
- Provide companionship and supervision to ensure the individual’s safety and well-being
- Support community participation, including outings, recreational activities, and social engagement
- Encourage and reinforce appropriate social behaviors and communication skills
- Assist with scheduling, reminders, and following daily routines
- Observe and report changes in behavior, health, or needs to supervisors or caregivers
- Maintain accurate service documentation in accordance with APD and Medicaid waiver requirements
- Follow all health, safety, and confidentiality standards
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
- At least 18 years of age
- Experience working with individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities preferred
- Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully
- Dependable, patient, and compassionate
- Must pass background screening in compliance with APD requirements
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, vehicle registration and insurance
- Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes or homes & community care settings preferred
- Compassionate attitude with a genuine desire to support individuals’ independence and well-being
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality of resident information
- Flexibility to work various shifts including evenings, weekends, or holidays
