Job Summary:

Position Summary:

The Clinical Educator is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs for nursing staff within the hospital setting. This role supports clinical excellence, professional development, evidence-based practice, regulatory compliance, and patient safety initiatives. The Clinical Educator collaborates with clinical leadership and interdisciplinary teams to ensure staff competency and high-quality patient care.

Position Responsibilities:

Staff Education & Training

  • Develops and delivers orientation, onboarding, and continuing education programs for nursing staff.

  • Assesses learning needs and creates educational plans to address competency gaps.

  • Facilitates classroom instruction, hands-on clinical training, simulation exercises, and e-learning initiatives.

  • Provides education related to new equipment, technologies, policies, and clinical procedures.

  • Includes principles of adult learning and develops content specific to target population and identified educational need.

  • Supports transition-to-practice programs for new graduate nurses.

  • Serves as a resource to nursing students.

Clinical Competency & Professional Development

  • Evaluates clinical competencies and maintains competency validation records as needed.

  • Mentors and coaches staff to promote professional growth and clinical excellence.

  • Promotes evidence-based nursing practice and current best practice standards.

  • Serves as a clinical resource for employees and physicians in the management of patient care needs.

  • Maintains own clinical competency by completing all required employee educational requirements.

Quality & Patient Safety

  • Collaborates with nursing leadership to support quality improvement and patient safety initiatives as well as regulatory readiness activities.

  • Examines clinical workflow and gaps in clinical process, mitigating barriers to ensure success of educational initiatives.

  • Acts as a change agent, promoting a positive culture of adaptability, innovation, and improvement.

  • Promotes compliance with hospital policies, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Partners with nursing leadership and interdisciplinary teams to support organizational goals.

  • Serves as a clinical resource and consultant for nursing staff.

  • Participates in committees, projects, and performance improvement initiatives as assigned.

  • Assists in the development and revision of nursing policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines as assigned.

Program Evaluation & Documentation

  • Tracks and evaluates the effectiveness of educational programs and learning outcomes.

  • Maintains accurate education records and reports.

  • Utilizes feedback from leadership and staff, data analysis, and quality metrics to improve training programs.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Sets priorities and handle multiple projects simultaneously under deadlines.

  • Builds cooperative, effective working relationships with colleagues at all levels.

  • Works independently and takes initiative.

  • Identifies and communicates needs and barriers utilizing the chain of command in a timely manner.

  • Willingness to work off-shifts and weekends hours and take on projects or re-prioritize with short notice.

  • Proactively anticipates, recognizes and responds to organizational and staff needs.

Qualifications

Education:

Four year college (Bachelor’s Degree) Required

Graduate (Master’s Degree, JD or Ph.D.) Preferred

Licensure(s):

Active State of Maine RN License

Certification(s):

BLS within 30 days of hire; ACLS encouraged

$73,014.51 - $100,552.37
