Company Description Penobscot Bay Community Health Partnerships (PBCHP), the community health promotion branch of the Penobscot Bay YMCA, serves residents in Knox and Waldo counties in Maine. PBCHP collaborates with community members and local organizations to advance healthier living through education, outreach, and prevention initiatives. Current focus areas include tobacco use prevention (including vaping), substance use prevention, and harm reduction strategies. The organization also works to decrease stigma around substance use disorder and to promote nutrition education. Team members contribute directly to community well-being by supporting accessible, inclusive health promotion programs.

  • Status: Part-Time (25 hours per week)
  • Location: Based in Rockport, ME, with regular local travel throughout Waldo County and occasional travel in Knox County. Mileage reimbursement is provided at $0.56 per mile for all work-related travel.
  • Start Date: August 1, 2026
  • Term & Continuity: Initial grant period runs July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027, with position extension expected upon annual grant renewal.
  • Hourly Pay: $27.00/hour

About the Role Join a supportive community health team dedicated to youth empowerment, health promotion, and community well-being. This flexible 25-hour-per-week position combines direct classroom engagement with community health outreach in Knox and Waldo counties.

What You'll Do

  • Engage Youth in Schools & Community: Deliver interactive, age-appropriate, evidence-informed health and substance use prevention education directly to K–12 students in local schools and afterschool programs.
  • Build School Partnerships: Collaborate with school administrators, counselors, and teachers to coordinate scheduling and foster positive school climates.
  • Support Youth Leadership: Help facilitate youth-driven activities, peer messaging, and student leadership opportunities that empower young people.
  • Community Outreach & Education: Provide community harm reduction education, overdose prevention awareness, and resource navigation support across Waldo County.
  • Track Impact: Maintain simple, clear records of classroom presentations and community outreach activities to support program goals.

Requirements

 

Qualifications

  • Experience & Education: Open to a variety of backgrounds! An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in public health, education, human services, or a related field is welcome, but relevant life or work experience (teaching, mentoring youth, community outreach, camp counseling) is equally valued.
  • Certifications: No prior certifications required upon hire. We fully cover the costs and guide you through obtaining your Provisional Prevention Specialist credential on the job.
  • Youth & Community Focus: Strong communication skills, enthusiasm for working with young people, and an approachable, non-judgmental attitude.
  • Mobility: Valid driver's license and access to a reliable personal vehicle for local travel (reimbursed at $0.56/mile).
  • Tech Basics: Comfortable with basic Google Workspace / Microsoft Office tools and email.
