Monday-Friday, 8:30am - 4:15pm

Multiple 40-minute sessions per day, grouped by grade levels.

Position Overview

The Drama Program Provider is responsible for delivering engaging, developmentally appropriate theater arts programming to campers in Grades 2–9. Through improvisation games, storytelling, character development, and mini-performances, the instructor will help campers build confidence, communication skills, and a love of creative expression in a supportive camp setting.

Skills And Competencies

  • Drama-Based Instruction: Lead 40-minute theater sessions that may include warm-ups, improv, group acting games, skits, character work, and short scripted or devised pieces.
  • Age-Specific Differentiation: Tailor drama activities to meet the developmental and social-emotional needs of Grades 2–3, 4–5, and 6–9, adapting content to each group’s interests, comfort level, and skillset.
  • Creative Engagement: Foster self-expression and collaboration through movement, voice, and storytelling. Encourage campers to take creative risks in a safe, inclusive environment.
  • Classroom and Time Management: Maintain a structured yet playful atmosphere. Keep sessions flowing, manage transitions smoothly, and ensure each group completes a meaningful creative experience within the time frame.
  • Performance Preparation: Prepare campers for informal end-of-week performances, skit showcases, or theme day presentations when appropriate.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work with counselors and leadership to align with weekly themes and broader camp activities. Share updates on camper engagement and group dynamics.
  • Camp Spirit and Culture: Serve as a visible, enthusiastic contributor to camp community life—bringing fun, flexibility, and positivity to every session.

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Background in Theater, Performing Arts, Drama Education, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience directing or facilitating theater games and performance-based activities with youth in a school, camp, or community arts setting.
  • Strong classroom presence and ability to manage energy and participation across different age levels.
  • Familiarity with age-appropriate scripts, improvisation techniques, and ensemble-building games.
  • Ability to cultivate a fun, inclusive atmosphere that celebrates effort and creativity.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications required (training available if needed).

Physical Requirements

  • Standing/sitting for long periods of time.
  • Bending, lifting, pushing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, stooping.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to reach at and above shoulder height to access higher areas of equipment, etc.
  • Must be capable of adapting to frequent changes in position throughout the workday.
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone.
  • Use of hands and fingers for manipulation, and using computer keyboard, educational tools, play equipment, and perform first aid and CPR.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
