Position Details
Department: Childcare Services—Auxiliary Programs
Reports to: Director of Auxiliary Programs and Beforecare or Aftercare Coordinator
Beforecare Hours: 7:00–9:00 a.m.
Aftercare Hours: 3:00–6:00 p.m., or until the last student is collected
Schedule: Monday–Friday
Term: 10-month academic year
Classification: Hourly, non-exempt
Work Location: In person
Pay: $16.00–$20.00 per hour
What You’ll Do
Before and Aftercare staff members help children begin or end their school day in a positive and engaging environment. Depending on the assigned group and shift, responsibilities may include:
- Welcoming and supervising students during recreational play, free-choice activities, homework time, and arts and crafts
- Completing daily child-supervision and snack records
- Planning and leading age-appropriate activities, including games, crafts, stories, and group experiences
- Assisting Lower School students with homework
- Monitoring classrooms and activity areas for safety concerns
- Helping students transition safely and on time to and from enrichment classes
- Maintaining accurate documentation and communicating concerns to program leadership
- Following all SJPDS and Childcare Services policies and procedures
- Completing required pre-employment paperwork and submitting accurate timesheets
- Performing other responsibilities assigned by the Director of Auxiliary Programs or program coordinators
Staff may work with groups of up to 15 early childhood students or 30 Lower School students, with staffing arranged according to program requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- At least 16 years old
- Comfortable working with children from age 3 through fifth grade
- Able to work collaboratively with other staff members
- Reliable, responsible, and able to exercise sound judgment
- Able to lift and move equipment or supplies weighing up to 10 pounds
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience working with children in a childcare center, school, summer camp, before or aftercare program, volunteer role, or babysitting setting
- Current Red Cross or comparable First Aid and CPR certification
