What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Bookseller position at St John's College?
Assists in all front- and back-facing tasks in the College Bookstore. This includes receiving, shelving, and inventory of books and merchandise; scheduling and supervision of student staff; point of sale transactions and customer service; oversight of social media; and management of the physical space, ensuring orderly and accessible shelves and displays.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Become an expert on the store’s layout, stock, and software.
- Open and close as needed, and prepare end of day reports and reconcile cash
- Oversee the College’s Program Wall: organize seminar and class texts, keep shelves stocked and orderly
- Work with student staff to create and update work schedules; assist with training; assign tasks as needed
- Assist customers at point of sale; offer advice and suggestions to students, faculty and community.
- Answer phones and oversee the store’s email account
- Oversee the store’s Instagram account
- See to the organization and neatness of the physical floor, from books to merchandise
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements: This is a part-time role that requires both a genial and nimble interpersonal style, a love of books, a self-starting ethic, and, ideally, experience with the St. John’s curriculum. Prior retail experience is essential but need not be extensive. Physical requirements are moderately demanding: lifting boxes no more than 25 pounds and retrieving orders from the Mailroom.
Salary : $15 - $21
