Saint Francis Xavier School in Weymouth, MA is seeking a 2/5 Physical Education Teacher with a passion for educating middle school students. PURPOSE AND SCOPE
Saint Francis Xavier Middle School, a co-ed Catholic school educating students in grades 5–8, is seeking a 2/5 Physical Education Teacher who strives to achieve the goals of Catholic education; assumes responsibility for the leadership and management of assigned physical education classes; develops and implements an instructional program that promotes physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, skill development, healthy habits, and student well-being; maintains detailed and accurate records as required by the school; establishes positive school-community relationships; continues professional development; and performs any other job-related tasks deemed necessary and/or assigned by the Principal.

Assumes responsibility for the leadership and management of assigned physical education classes:
- Provides a positive, safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
- Organizes the gym, outdoor spaces, equipment, and instructional areas to facilitate student learning and safety.
- Supervises and provides for the safety, welfare, and care of students while they are in physical education classes and school activities.
- Teaches in accordance with diocesan and local policies as well as appropriate state laws and safety expectations.
- Shows respect, fairness, and professionalism when working with students, faculty, parents, and all members of the school community.
- Develops and implements daily and weekly instructional plans for physical education classes.
Develops and implements a physical education program according to student needs and grade-level standards:
- Promotes physical fitness, movement skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy lifelong habits.
- Uses appropriate teaching and differentiation strategies to meet individual student learning, physical, social, and emotional needs.
- Provides instruction in age-appropriate fitness activities, cooperative games, team sports, individual skills, and wellness concepts.
- Uses available resources and equipment to promote meaningful learning experiences for all students.
- Uses a variety of instructional strategies to engage students and support skill development.
- Includes all students in activities, games, discussions, and skill-building experiences.
- Adapts activities as needed for students with different abilities, learning needs, or physical limitations.
Evaluates student progress effectively:
- Prepares lesson plans in advance and adjusts instruction as students and classes require.
- Uses ongoing observation and assessment to monitor student participation, skill development, effort, cooperation, and growth.
- Aligns instruction and assessment with school expectations, grade-level standards, and the mission of Catholic education.
- Provides prompt, constructive feedback to students.
- Maintains proper grading and reporting systems as required by the Principal.
- Meets deadlines for attendance, reports, grades, and other required documentation.
Establishes positive school-community relationships:
- Maintains cooperative relationships with all members of the school community.
- Promotes respectful and positive school relationships.
- Communicates with parents and guardians regarding student progress and classroom expectations.
- Cooperates with and helps promote school activities, events, and co-curricular programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Preference given to applicants licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in Physical Education; all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.
