Job Summary
The Transporter Level 2 provides advanced patient transportation and material delivery services across the hospital. In addition to performing standard transporter duties, this role requires specialized training or certification to assist with clinical support tasks. The Transporter Level 2 ensures the safe, timely, and compassionate transport of patients while adhering to hospital protocols and supporting clinical operations.
Essential Functions
- Transport patients via wheelchair, stretcher, or bed throughout the facility, including those requiring monitoring or equipment
- Assist patients entering/exiting vehicles or hospital units safely
- Deliver medical supplies, specimens, and equipment to designated departments
- Support nursing or ancillary staff in managing special transport needs and equipment
- Assist with transporting deceased patients respectfully and according to policy
- Provide directions and support to patients, visitors, and clinical staff
- Accurately document all transportation activities and maintain equipment readiness
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations
- Knowledge of basic clinical terminology and patient safety protocols
- Demonstrated reliability and ability to work in fast-paced environments
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to handle patients with dignity, especially in sensitive or end-of-life circumstances
- Capable of performing physically demanding tasks including lifting and maneuvering equipment and patients
- Familiarity with hospital departments and clinical logistics
- Able to manage multiple requests while maintaining professionalism and efficiency
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Licenses/Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- One or more of the following preferred (required for Level 2 designation):
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
- Certified Nurse Aide (CNA)
- EMT-Basic
- Certified Pharmacy Technician
- Completion of Nursing Fundamentals
- EKG or ECG course completion
Experience
- Previous hospital or nursing home experience preferred
