*The Summer Camp Counselor is a temporary summer position working 8 weeks Monday – Friday from 9:30am – 3:30pm.*
Prior to camp beginning, attendance to New Employee Orientation is required. New Employee Orientation is scheduled Monday, June 8, 2026 – Friday, June 12, 2026 (attendance to all orientation days is required)
*Camp Rainbow will run Monday – Friday, 9:30am – 3:30pm beginning June 22, 2026 - August 14, 2026.*
The children are placed in small groups allowing for a more individualized programming plan. These small groups then join together for a large group activity pertaining to the theme week at hand such as:
- 4th of July Parade and BBQ- the children, along with their wheelchairs, bikes & other positioning equipment, are decorated in patriotic bliss. The children then parade along the grounds of St. Edmond’s while visitors and volunteers, from the community, line the parade route cheering and applauding for the children.
- Talent Show - groups share their talents competing for a coveted trophy performing for a captive audience.
- Marketplace - individual groups create and design works of art to be sold at this yearly event.
These annual weeks are accompanied by new & creative theme weeks offering new & exciting activities for the children to experience. The children also attend multiple community outings.
Position Purpose
Assist and fulfill direct care and rehabilitative services for participants of Camp Rainbow.
Job Expectations
- Assist with activities of daily living including dressing and feeding assigned child/children in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.
- Provide Active Treatment in accordance with program goals and guidelines.
- Actively participate with child/children's activities, including but not limited to group activities, trips and swimming.
- Ensure all items used on/for child/children are properly cleaned/sanitized in accordance with procedures and guidelines.
- Ability to lift and carry in excess of 50lbs on a regular basis and push, pull and move up to 200lbs. Occasionally, and ability to stand, walk and move without limitations is required.
- Attend Report from Nursing at start of shift and note any items pertaining to child/children assigned.
- Properly document all required entries for each child in your care
- Properly complete any/all logs, forms, or other types of documentation as required in accordance with proper policy/procedure.
- Ensure all assigned tasks are completed prior to the end of each day.
- Assist any/all co-workers with tasks/assignments as needed or as available.
- Ensure all areas occupied are clean and neat, wiping down all surfaces, clearing all dirty items to the proper places, and putting things in their proper place in accordance with policy/procedure.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- No experience required, but some relevant work experience is preferred.
- On-the-job training is provided.
