AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY INSTRUCTOR

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Automotive Technology Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality, industry-aligned instruction that prepares 11th and 12th grade students for careers in the automotive service and repair industry. This position emphasizes both classroom instruction and extensive hands-on learning in a modern automotive laboratory, providing students with the technical knowledge, diagnostic skills, and professional work habits necessary for employment, postsecondary education, military service, and industry certification.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: The ideal candidate will possess a Michigan secondary CTE teaching certificate in Automobile Technician, CIP Code 47.0604.

Experience: Two or more years (4,000 hours) of recent, relevant automotive industry work experience. If not already certified, the successful candidate must begin a Michigan CTE teacher preparation program within the first three years of employment.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design and implement competency-based learning experiences aligned with Michigan CTE standards and ASE Education Foundation requirements.
• Maintain ASE Educational Foundation Accreditation for the program.
• Deliver instruction in automotive systems including steering and suspension, brakes, maintenance and light repair, electrical/electronic systems, heating and air conditioning, engine performance, and related diagnostic procedures.
• Provide students with hands-on experience using industry-standard tools, equipment, computerized diagnostic systems, and service information resources.
• Foster safe work practices by maintaining an organized laboratory environment and emphasizing OSHA and automotive industry safety standards.
• Integrate career-ready practices including critical thinking, teamwork, communication, customer service, professionalism, and ethical workplace behaviors.
• Assist students in developing career goals, postsecondary plans, and employment readiness through industry certifications, work-based learning, and career exploration.
• Deliver curriculum that integrates academic concepts including mathematics, science, reading, and technical communication into authentic automotive applications.
• Differentiate instruction and adapt teaching strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of all students.
• Manage the instructional environment by planning engaging learning experiences, assessing student performance, providing timely feedback, and monitoring student progress toward competency mastery.
• Maintain accurate student attendance, competency, certification, and progress records as required.

RELATED JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist students in seeking and retaining employment related to their training.
• Work cooperatively and effectively with St. Clair TEC staff and administration
• Manage student behaviors by developing, implementing, and maintaining a classroom management plan.
• Maintain an educational laboratory and equipment in a manner that continuously provides an effective instructional environment.
• Assist in maintaining an active advisory committee.
• Work cooperatively with parents and staff of local school districts. Maintain good public relations with the community at large.
• Take an active role in recruiting new students.
• Follow procedures and policies as set forth in the staff handbook, student handbook, and board of education policy manual.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Position Employment Date: 2026-27 school year -upon board approval, pending background

check and drug screening.

Length of Contract: 185 Day School Year

Salary: per the IEA Contract, based on education and experience
