Terms of Employment: Full-Time, 52 weeks, 37.5 hours per week. Frequent evenings and weekends depending on athletic calendar/events.

Classification: Leadership

Salary Range: $80,000 or commensurate with experience. Generous benefit package (see below).

FLSA Status: Salary/Exempt

Hours: Mon - Friday: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Average 37.5 hours. Hours vary and include frequent evenings and

weekends, depending on the athletic calendar/events.

Job Summary: The Athletic Director provides visionary leadership and operational oversight for SC4’s athletic program, which includes multiple varsity and club sports. The program serves a diverse student-athlete population and plays a vital role in student engagement and institutional growth. The Director supervises a large staff of full-time and part-time employees, as well as student workers, and is responsible for fostering a culture of academic and athletic excellence. This position will collaborate across campus to advance athletics, recruit and retain exceptional coaches, and promote student success both on and off the field.

Generous Benefits Package Available (per Current Contractual Agreement)

  • Up to thirty-eight (38) paid time off days annually (prorated based on hire date).
  • Up to fourteen (14) paid holidays/days closed throughout the year (including time off from December 24 through New Year’s Day), depending on hire date.

  • Scholarship for employees, spouse, and/or dependent children to attend SC4 credit classes covering the full cost of registration fee, tuition, and technology fee (when applicable) per campus guidelines. Additional funds for employment-related education/training each year, upon approval.
  • Access to educational funds for education, professional memberships, travel, and conferences.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with the National Junior College Athletic Association, Michigan Community College Athletic Association, Title IX, and institutional policies.
  • Establish and uphold department policies and procedures for coaches, staff, and student-athletes, including the Athletics Handbook and Code of Conduct.
  • Conduct pre-season orientations for coaches and student-athletes to review expectations, compliance, and departmental policies.
  • Develop study schedules and academic resources, including tutoring programs and student support services, to promote academic success.
  • Develop and manage the athletic department budgets and oversee purchasing, inventory, and fiscal accountability.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate coaches and staff while supporting academic success and eligibility certification for student-athletes.
  • Oversee scheduling, travel, and event management for home and away contests; manage athletic facilities and coordinate off-campus venue agreements.
  • Develop community outreach initiatives to strengthen partnerships and enhance SC4’s visibility.
  • Build relationships with local school districts, athletic directors, and club managers to support recruitment and community engagement.
  • Supervise sports information, media relations, and digital presence.
  • Oversee the development of press releases to promote game results, highlight significant events, and showcase tournaments.
  • Seek expansion of athletic programs to match student interests and regional league opportunities.
  • Collaborate with enrollment management to meet recruitment and retention goals and advance SC4’s mission through athletics-driven engagement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received

Reports to the Vice President of Student Services.

Supervision Given

Provides direct and general supervision to assigned staff and coaches.

Education/Experience

  • Master’s degree in Sports Management, Athletic Administration, Business, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in collegiate athletic administration.
  • Leadership experience preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of NJCAA compliance and eligibility regulations.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, analytic, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Experience as a Collegiate Athletic Director or senior-level administrator preferred.
  • Fundraising and budget management expertise preferred.
  • Familiarity with Title IX and gender equity initiatives preferred.
  • Ability to foster relationships with community partners.
  • Respect and empathy for a diverse population.
