What are the responsibilities and job description for the LEAD CUSTODIAN / FACILITIES position at St. Charles County?
JOB DESCRIPTION:The purpose of this position is to perform floor care and cleaning tasks within County Government facilities. This role will primarily be assigned to one facility but may be required to assist at other sites, which includes the Corrections facilities. The work is performed under the supervision of the Supervisor - Facility Support.
- Provides leadership and guidance of custodial work and assigns project work to custodial staff.
- Trains Custodians on proper use of cleaning chemicals and building specific cleaning scheduled and procedures.
- Performs regular floor and carpet care cleaning tasks to include, but not limited to, regular vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping.
- Scrubs, buffs, waxes and strips vinyl and terrazzo flooring on a regular basis. Cleans carpet by spot cleaning and thorough carpet scrubs. Performs water extraction as needed.
- Cleans and disinfects restrooms & locker rooms, as applicable. Polish mirrors and faucets, cleans sinks, toilet and urinal fixtures, cleans partitions, lockers and wall tile.
- Cleans and polishes drinking fountains.
- Dusts window sills, ledges, counters and work surfaces/areas as required. Cleans interior glass and windows as needed.
- Replenishes soap and paper supplies in restrooms, and break rooms. Stocks janitorial supplies.
- Empties trash containers and removes debris.
- Moves furniture and equipment as needed for deeper cleaning and floor care procedures.
- Monitors supply inventory and recommends supply purchases. Notifies supervisor when trash container or dispensers are damaged or broken.
- Accepts deliveries and verifies quantity received.
- Completes work orders documenting supplies used, time spent on projects and job completion status.
- Maintains knowledge of cleaning equipment, recommends replacement of existing equipment and or implementation of newer equipment.
- Maintains knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting practices and procedures. Suggest changes in cleaning products or materials to improve operations.
- Completes timecards documenting time spent in various areas of County facilities.
- Works with Supervisor and provides feedback for Custodians.
- In the absence of the Supervisor, assigns additional custodial coverage as required to handle scheduled and unscheduled absences of custodians.
- Executes additional custodial tasks to address emergency situations (i.e. sprinkler breaks, or water leaks) or other project work as needed. Events may occur outside of normal business hours.
- Provides back-up assistance when needed in the Corrections facility.
- This position cannot telecommute.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
- 3- to 5 years custodial experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Since employee has access to non-public areas of County buildings, including courtrooms, the correctional and law enforcement facilities, etc., candidate will be required to report all prior convictions and/or pending charges and successfully pass a background check.
- Must maintain a clean record and successful completion of PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) training.
- Employment is contingent on successfully passing a full criminal background check.
