What are the responsibilities and job description for the GROUNDS MAINTENANCE II / FACILITIES position at St. Charles County?
JOB DESCRIPTION: The purpose of this position is to perform upkeep for various County properties as it relates to landscaping and ground maintenance. The work is performed under the supervision of the Grounds Supervisor.
- Must be willing to work both with a team and/or independently when needed.
- Shares knowledge and assists Grounds Maintenance I staff with assigned work when needed.
- Performs turf maintenance tasks that may include mowing, trimming, fertilizing, seeding, sod installation, and watering.
- Performs annual landscaping requirements such as planting trees, flowers, and shrubs. Spreads mulch and applies appropriate fertilizer, preemergent and prevention chemicals to common grounds areas.
- Prunes and shapes trees and shrubs. Remove or transplant trees and shrubs when needed. Rake and collect leaf debris in the fall.
- Completes work orders documenting supplies used, time spent on projects and job completion status.
- Sweeps curbs, walkways, and parking lots for debris or trash.
- Maintains Flood Plain and Communication Tower properties. Including mowing, weeding, and debris removal.
- Operates and maintains equipment and performs minor repairs. Monitors equipment operation and recommends repairs or replacement. Equipment to include but not limited to mowers, tractors, snowplows, brush hogs, trimmers, chain saws, and blowers.
- Maintains irrigations system, performs seasonal maintenance, repairs lines and sprinkler heads, and prepares systems for winter. Monitors and adjusts irrigations systems as required to maintain landscaped turf and beds with minimal use of water.
- Keeps an accurate inventory of supplies and materials such as seed, fertilizer, mulch, herbicides, pesticides, and insecticides and reports deficiencies to the Supervisor.
- Raises and lowers flags as directed. Replaces flags as necessary.
- Sets up tables and chairs in meeting spaces; breaks down tables and chairs following meetings.
- Moves equipment, supplies, parts, and general items in and between buildings.
- Cleans shop and organizes tools.
- Works as part of the Snow-Duty on-call assignment. Removes snow from walkways and parking lots and spreads ice melt products as directed. May occur during normal business hours or on-call on an as needed basis.
- Acts as lead focus person for call-up of snow removal personal.
- Escorts repair service personnel and contractors as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:
Education
- General/technical high school diploma or GED equivalent
Job Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of prior ground maintenance experience required.
- Minimum of 1 year of small engine repair experience preferred.
- Experience using commercial snow removal equipment preferred.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Must have and maintain a driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
- Individuals with building access to areas with confidential data such as MULES/REJIS databases used in law enforcement are required to successfully pass a drug test and fingerprint background check and maintain a clear record throughout employment.
- Employment is contingent on successfully passing a full criminal background check.
