Under the direction of the registered nurse, care companions monitor the behavior and health of patients in a healthcare facility. Care companion highlight skills such as ability to deal with behavioral problems, knowledge of safety techniques, teamwork and good communication skills.

Duties & Responsibilities:
General:
- Assists in maintaining a healthful, safe environment.
- Keeps the hospital client in constant eye contact during entire assigned shift.
- Assists the client with ambulating by providing stand by assistance.
- Follows universal precautions whenever giving any aspect of client care.
- Performs those functions specified for each individual client.
- Responds to the physical, emotional and developmental needs of the client.
- Follows emergency procedures in the event of any incident, accident, injury, or significant changes in the clients' condition.
- Reports any changes in client's mental or physical condition, suspicion of ingesting questionable substances, or items brought to the room by visitors to the staff nurse.
- May provide non-medical personal care, light housekeeping, prepare small meals for residents and clients as needed.
- Accompany patient to all procedures off the unit.
- Contributes to positive team spirit.
