The Art Teacher is responsible for providing a high-quality visual arts education for students in grades PreK3–8. The teacher will foster creativity and artistic expression while supporting the spiritual, emotional, and social development of students in line with the school’s mission. The role includes showcasing student work and contributing to school-wide events and initiatives.
Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:1. Instruction & Curriculum Development
- Develop and implement a comprehensive visual arts curriculum for students in PK through 8th grade, aligning with state standards and Catholic values.
- Teach foundational art skills including drawing, painting, sculpture, design, and art appreciation.
- Introduce students to a variety of artistic styles, techniques, and cultural traditions in a developmentally appropriate manner.
- Encourage creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving through artistic exploration.
2. Integration of Faith & Culture
- Incorporate elements of Catholic identity through sacred art, liturgical seasons, and faith-based themes.
- Provide opportunities for students to create artwork that reflects faith, service, and community values.
3. Exhibitions & School Events
- Organize and display student artwork throughout the school building and at special events.
- Coordinate school art shows, showcases, or exhibitions.
- Plan and organize the annual Art Show in conjunction with the Spring Concert, including student preparation, display setup, and collaboration with faculty and staff.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff on cross-curricular and school-wide projects (e.g., stage design for performances, school events, or themed displays).
- Assist with afterschool set and prop design for the 8th grade musical, including planning, creation, and coordination with staff and student participants.
4. Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and prepare grades for report cards.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and classroom activities.
- Collaborate with the school administration and other teachers on scheduling, events, and special programs.
- Attend faculty meetings, in-service training, and professional development workshops as scheduled.
5. Classroom Environment & Management
- Foster a classroom environment that is safe, respectful, and conducive to creativity and learning.
- Implement classroom management strategies to maintain student engagement and participation.
- Maintain organization and proper care of art supplies, materials, and equipment.
6. Other Duties
- Participate in school-wide activities such as retreats, fundraisers, and community outreach events.
- Support and collaborate with the afterschool Yearbook Club moderator, including contributing to design, layout, and student involvement where appropriate.
- Uphold and model Catholic values and mission in all interactions with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and stand for extended periods
- Ability to set up, clean, and maintain art materials and displays
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education or related field (Master’s preferred)
- Teaching certification or ability to obtain certification preferred
- Experience teaching art to elementary and middle school students
- Knowledge of various artistic media and techniques
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Commitment to the mission of Catholic education
