JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Nutrition Manager, the Nutrition Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the daily operations of the Title III-C1 Congregate Nutrition Program at designated SBSS congregate meal sites. This position ensures the effective delivery of nutrition services, supervises assigned staff and volunteers, maintains accurate program and participant records, and monitors compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and agency regulations related to nutrition services, food safety, and program operations.

Essential Job Functions: Nutrition Coordinator has the following duties and responsibilities.

  • Coordinate the daily operation of assigned Title III-C1 Congregate Nutrition Program sites and provide coverage for other sites as needed.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise volunteers, SCSEP participants, TSE staff, interns, and site personnel to ensure efficient meal service operations, including meal setup, service, and cleanup in accordance with food safety and sanitation requirements.
  • Order meals and dining center supplies; communicate meal counts, special requests, and changes to catering vendors in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate program records and complete all required daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports, including meal counts, participant data, food temperature logs, contribution records, cleaning schedules, Client Tracking System (CTS) entries, and internal agency documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and agency regulations related to food safety, sanitation, nutrition services, and program operations.
  • Monitor meal service quality and dining center operations to provide a safe, welcoming, and positive environment for participants.
  • Assist with participant outreach and engagement efforts to maintain or increase program participation and encourage access to additional services available through the Dining Center and HMPC.
  • Collect, reconcile, and document participant contributions in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Plan and coordinate holiday celebrations, special events, educational presentations, and recreational activities for congregate dining participants.
  • Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development activities; communicate relevant information and updates to staff and volunteers.
  • Maintain confidentiality of participant information and adhere to all agency policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Nutrition Manager, Dining Coordinators, and Nutrition Department staff to support program goals and ensure continuity of services.
  • Perform other related duties and prepare reports as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working in a nutrition, food service, senior services, community services, or related program within a multi-purpose service center or comparable setting.
  • Possession of a valid Food Protection Manager Certification (ServSafe) or the ability to obtain certification within thirty (30) days of employment.
  • Current CPR certification or the ability to obtain certification within thirty (30) days of employment.
  • Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Ability to effectively interact with older adults from diverse cultural, ethnic, socioeconomic, and educational backgrounds, including individuals with physical, cognitive, or medical limitations.
  • Working knowledge of basic computer applications, including Microsoft Suite and Google programs, email, data entry systems, and standard office equipment such as copiers, scanners, and printers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in English. Bilingual skills are desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal and motivational skills with the ability to encourage participant engagement in nutrition, wellness, and recreational programs.
  • Excellent organizational, customer service, and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, participants, vendors, and community partners.
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation practices, and applicable health regulations related to congregate meal programs is preferred

Supervisory Responsibility

This position provides direct supervision to assigned volunteers, SCSEP participants, TSE support staff, interns, and other program support personnel, as needed.

Work Environment

This position operates primarily in a senior center environment, including congregate dining facilities, kitchens, offices, and community-based service locations.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively, including speaking and hearing. The employee must be able to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and maintain a full range of motion necessary to perform assigned duties. The employee must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or move up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and may occasionally be required to assist with or move items exceeding 50 pounds with appropriate assistance or equipment. Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision and the ability to read and review documents and computer screens. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

Travel 

Limited local travel is required to support program operations and provide coverage at other SBSS locations as needed.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • At least one (1) year of food service experience.
  • Food handlers certificate required

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and other work-related documents. Ability to communicate effectively with participants, staff, volunteers, and small groups.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, and accurately calculate figures and amounts.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to respond appropriately to operational issues, participant concerns, and facility emergencies.
